    Apparently not.

Well that is just fucking silly that is.

Although reading the disclaimer about privacy did bugger all to settle
my concerns about the privacy thing.

    Although...

By calling you a terrorist your oppressors are admitting you are making
your point. Which must be extremely satisfying.

But hey, does death give a **** about semantics?

Yebbut but given that you are not and *if* you are also unfortunate
enough to live in a part of the world where "they" prove their point by
old fashioned slavery and oppression rather than upping interest rates a
quarter of a point and you see you only recourse as violent resistance
then you should be whoop de woo with joy that you are indeed striking
    terror into their hearts.

Resistance, whilst arguably noble, is futile. Terror otoh??

Me neither. I'd have thought "terrorism" is a relatively modern word
    - certainly post-WW2. Who's got a copy of the OED handy?

Ain't that a bit self defeating? I thought the point of being a
philosopher was to show how good and clever you were by having a deep
and readily misunderstandable answer for everything? How are you going
to make the world bow down to your superior intellect if you keep
getting pissed off by questions? It don't make sense.

  8. Wanders off, and returns with trusty copy of OED.

1 Government by intimidation as directed and carried out by the party in
power in France during the Revolution of 1798-1804.

That's specific to 'The Terror'. Its first reference is 1795 but, more
    generally:

    2 A policy intended to strike with terror those against whom it is adopted;
the employment of methods of intimidation; the fact of terrorizing or
    condition of being terrorized.

The first reference is from 1798, and 'terrorist' - in its secondary
definition as 'any one who attempts to further his views by a system of
coercive intimidation' - is in current usage from 1803.

  10. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
The Victorians were big on anarchists. Mind you, the French had a fair
old brush with Le Terror, mostly inflicting it on themselves, but there
    you go.

You always seem a little in awe of military types, while my natural
reaction is to want to wind them up.
    heh.

Coming from a military family [1] I just treat them with a "not
impressed" indifference. Which IME is the most effective way of dealing
    with them.

[1] It's also useful as I know enough to spot the fantasists and let it
    be known they've been rumbled.

  15. Heh. I was recently taught by an ex-RN officer how to get the sentries to
salute you as you go about your civilian business in Central London. It
*did* impress the 2 Septics I was with. This fantasist wasn't rumbled!

Was he the Duchess of York's security officer by any chance?
I wondered where she got her inspiration from.

In my limited experience, the ones who've really BTDTGTTS are the ones
who *don't* talk about it. At all.

I found out a lot of stuff about Pa only after he'd died.

Because to spot someone as "hard" implies a level of "hardness" in
Bear. "takes one to know one", etc.
