The engine's back in and the primer's been laid, although it's still
    reacting and looks like shit.

I'm away for the weekend and only have two evenings free before Chimay.

Somehow I get the feeling that what would take most of us about 3 weeks
to achieve you will no doubt manage in 2 evenings.

Or you could always take the 7R.

Heh, I know how you feel, i've been frantically SOB fettling for the
last 2 days (and the last 2 weekends)

So been out tonight after building 1 good fork leg out of the knackered
one on the running bike and the spare forks & seals the seller gave me.

.... to find someone had snapped off one of the mudguard bolts into a
blind hole into the fork bottom.

    Bastard !!!!

Cue lots of swearing [1], plus gas and heat. Won't budge, so i've left
it soaking to tackle it again tomorrow.

    Cheers

    Paul.

[1] Clearly 'cos I should have checked the condition a bit more
carefully before i rebuilt it :)

If you need to borrow a LH drill bit, then figure out a size[1] and I
can bung one in the post to you (unless you're close enough to Hitchin
to collect it?). That'll shift the fucker.

[1] Go about 3 - 4mm smaller then the minor diameter of the thread

Cool, thanks for the offer. All my LH drill bits are 6mm or more, this
bugger is about 4 to 5 mm diameter.

It should come out, I managed to get quite a bit of penetrating oil
past it tonight (whilst the lug was hot), the fall back plan is to go
back to the old leg as it's only the fork tube that needed changing
    really.

Will see tomorrow whether it's faster to get the sheared bolt out than
to faff around swapping all the bits over. ;)

    ... Again .. !

Has been considered but It's a bit of a non runner.

I want to get the front end up in the air without putting any weight or
load on the forks or yokes.

....neither do I want to take the exhaust off. It's all a bit tricky but
I've been too busy to do anything to it yet.

I know it's not the best of bikes, but you can borrow the GSX for the
Chimay trip if you want? I'll not be using it that weekend so it's
    available if you need it.

Many thanks for the offer but I will triumph in the face of adversity.
If not I may have the use of:

    (a) Snorky.
    (b) a Honda CX650 Eurosport.

Talk about an incentive to get the fucker fixed....

No, no probs, it's had the kitchen sink thrown at it.

Plus gas, heat, dremeled a slot in the stub, it's chewed up 3 bits and
1 screwdriver. It's been drilled right through with a 2.5 mm bit but
then it snapped off [1] the 3 mm on the way through. I was just
drifting through the broken piece (the hole isn't completely blind)
when the drift broke off too.

Bollocks, i'll use the spare leg ;-)

This really needs a drill press and some patience now, but it's in
    short supply ;-)

    Cheers,

    Paul.

[1] The HSS drills I got recently [i've just found] are really brittle
[2], not at all like the HSS steel drills I used to get in my youth.
    [3]
[2] i.e a decent drill bit was cracking through the broken piece at a
rate of knots, but then I got worried about this one breaking off too.
[3] Back to the engineering supplier then, not Screwfix ..
