Thinking of...

    With the addition to the stable of the Blackbird, I've noticed one
    thing about it. The seat is WAY too high and causing me to be standing
    on my toes to hold it upright. I figured I'd check into some options
    and found a few lowering kits on the internet. I'm thinking of
    lowering it several inches to get my feet back on the ground.

    Now, here's the question....

    If I lower this Blackbird down closer to the ground, how much of a
    problem would that be with ground clearance? Does anyone know of
    anything that I might need to watch out for?

    I know there must be someone here who has experience with lowering
    bikes and stuff....

    The only problem I see with lowering your bike is that you sometimes
    ride with Louie. You and I both know that when you ride with Louie you
    need to RAISE the bike so you have more ground clearence to clear
    branches..trees...rocks...bolders...and when you ride thru rivers and
    creeks you dont flood the bike. Also another addition you might want
    to think about adding is some knobby dirt tires. Those would probably
    really help to get you out of the mud or ditch when Louie pulls over
    to get his GPS locked in.

    My suggestion is that you look into getting some really thick sole
    boots. They can custom make the soles as thick as you want then. I
    know back in the 70's when we were kids we used to wear platform
    shoes. Those may still be made.

    Those branches might be something to watch out for. I'd hate to have a
    piece of wood knock a hole in the bottom of my bike....

    I lowered my big ole' Valkyrie, 4 inches.
    It was a 3 step deal.

    I was tippy toed, now I’m flat footed.

    Being a short redneck, I believed I needed to be more in control,
    turning around and backing up that big dude! <g>

    I've noticed how high all those ''CrotchRockets'' seem to be.

    I usually just lurk over hear at tx.moto, but I can't help but add my 2
    cents.

    I can see lowering a KLR 650 or a Suzi V-strom, for the Honda, I disgree
    with the other posters about shaving the seat. Just buy a Corbin. I have
    one on my F4i, I can only say two bad things. It is slippery and does not
    lend itself to hanging off on the track.

    It is lower, provides amazing comfort for long rides and it very high
    quality.

    Lowering kits change the bike's geometry, rake, trail, clearance and all
    that.

    I dont still have any platforms but I might should have kept a pair
    hu..Damn that was a good band back then wasnt it.
