Thinking of giving it up

Stu vomited on to the keyboard and came up with:
I am a great believer in what I refer to as 'God's Big Bingo'. When
your ball pops out, you're comin' home.

Riding a bike just makes it a little easier for Him to arrange.

    That's a pretty sound philosophy.
    Hence "pretty" ;-)

Right speed, right gear and know what's around you. Right speed,
wearing the right gear and remembering to jump and roll works too ...
Now that is *class*. Most grinnable and nicely observed.

You know, when I think of the prospect of my death, from whatever cause,
it is the thought of my kids which affects me. I will go, that bothers
me not, but I don't want to leave them behind young.

However, I still ride. There are many ways of going. What I do want to
make sure of is that I have enjoyed the life I've had. Everything is a
measure of risk and you can bet I am bloody observant on the bike. I
really do expect every car to do something studid infront of me - it
happened all too often on a pushbike.

But you won't catch me parachuting, ohhh no!

Did you never think about undertaking research in this field in order to
    substantiate the claim?[/QUOTE]

    Couldn't get a grant.

Why not? i do[1], quite a lot in the past but less so now, and ime
riding on the road is *far* more dangerous. Equally rewarding and in
some ways surreal but the environment is tightly regulated.

It doesn't do one any harm to be reminded of the price one can pay
    for, well, *living*.

[1] this weekend, if the weather's good, so i'll miss the EOSM :(

What, throw myself out of a fully functional plane? Put myself at the
mercy of a bit of string and canvass tucked up in a rucksack?
But at least I have the illusion of being in control.

'tis tru but I don't really GAF about the forecast, it's the weather
that's important. It is sooo depressing when the forecast is good but
    wrong, it's a weekend totally wasted.[2]

They have three planes which should be fun. Might even have a go on
birdman suit [1] if i'm feeling a bit reckless!

Yes, and i ask again, why not? You clearly don't understand so
    therefore, it's wrong.

.... and you put deliberately put yourself at the mercy of the clueless
on the public highway without so much as a seatbelt, airbag and steel
    cage to protect you?

I think that there is far far less control in the road environment.

    Do, or don't.. your choice.

If you sit around pondering the options forever you'll never have any
fun, and will die wondering what if.

Just do whatever it is *you* want to.

  15. Well, no. I don't think people stand underneath parachutists, calling
out: "Left a bit, right a bit, steady now, here he comes, got him!"

So how do the blind folk get to do it, then, besided sending their guide
dogs out on a very long lead?
