Well, if he's flailing about on a public road, he's obviously made a fatal
mistake, and he deserves everything he gets. But I bet he gets carted about
    in taxis and the like.

Anyway, he's just put his hand up to being wrong about black holes. Fucking
waste of time that was: if he'd been mown down years ago, we wouldn't have
spent so much time up that particular blind alley. And we'd have been
spared the crap 70s computer voice effect, too.

I can't think of many in my 4 years of riding through London. I don't filter
like a dispatch rider mind, but I've seen PLENTY of near accidents involving
those so I can handle a few seconds off my commute by taking it easy.

Well, no. The thing is, motorised vehicles and pedestrians /do/ co-exist -
if imperfectly. The way to improve this relationship is by better training
of both sides, not by a kneejerk dump of responsibility onto one side.
The public transport infrastructure has to work a hell of a lot better
/first/, if you want to get people out of their cars. Sporadic
implementation of park and ride doesn't cut it.
You live in a city, don't you?

Fucknose. Maybe he recorded everything he ever wanted to say back in the
70s, and he's just replaying selections at random on really crap equipment.

Absolutely. Which is also what happens when everyone and their mother tries
to absolve themselves of responsibility in here.

At no point have I said the responsibility should be 100% on either side.
    I Agree.
Well, Shrewsbury has been trying to get city-status for eons (it has an
abbey it claims was once a cathedral, or something).
I've had a good mix of rural & urban living.

I realise that not being able to cross a rural or sub-urban road would be
    impractical ...
....so I'd implement tightropes or rope-swings to get pedestrians across
    safely.

Maybe a zone system would work best. Different colour tarmac for roads
    pedestrians aren't allowed to cross.

No they're not. If I'm doing a perfectly legal 29mph down my street,
and some fuckwit who hasn't learned the Green Cross Code leaps out in
front of me, I clip them with my wing mirror (if I don't have time to
extent my arm, with my hand balled into a fist, of course) and them
fall off my bike, it's going to hurt me more than them.

Fair enough - you've cited a valid example - but it hardly shatters my
    argument.
Revising it I'd have to say "..since results of an impact are, more often
than not, greatly in favour of the rider/driver".

Interesting you mention 'a perfectly legal 29mph'.
The speed limit and your legal right is clearly more important to you than
the physical health or life of a pedestrian.
You're more bothered about using up your rightful speed limit than riding at
an appropraite speed for a given situation.

    For shame.

No. I didn't say that. My legal rights are more important to me than
the rights of a fuckwit who irresponsibly steps out in front of me
    without looking.

My legal rights are equally important as the legal rights of a
law-abiding pedestrian who is paying full attention to the matter in
    hand.

Sorby, mate, your argument is so full of holes. You're in a car.
Another car drives into you, because the driver isn't paying
attention. Is it your fault? No. Then why is it any different if
that "other car" is in fact a pedestrian?

That's a bit harsh; it's not like he's saying that black holes don't exist,
he's just changed his stance on what information can be retrieved from a
    black hole.

This point wasn't a "blind alley" it was an area where research obviously
had to be done, as Hawking's original model for black holes was in conflict
with Quantum theory, so one of them had to be wrong. It just turned out to
    be wheelchair boy.

There is nothing wrong with that. What *I* was bitching about is the idea
that in *any* circumstances the motorist is *always* to blame.
