Christ yes, I forgot. Want a go, mate?
    I've had my money's worth ;-)
My thoughts precisely - I'm prepared to give it a go, although Mr
Suzuki is a tough act to follow.

On another tack altogether, I was cruising eBay, as a bloke does at
this sort of time - and I came across a proper bike.
1990 GSXR1100 in ice-cream van, two owners from new and the current
one knows the first, been wet twice, never seen Winter, 8,500 miles.
    2,500 quid.
    I'm only 2.2k short, if I don't fix my PC ...

Bent or worn, exacerbated by petrol in the oil and my hamfootedness.
Bottom end prolly run, loads of dosh for parts.

It was the way that it went in and drive engaged, then popped out -
and back in again - then out and back that "amused" me. The fucker.

Sounds like a fair exchange to me.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Next time, when I sense a problem, I'll fix it before it becomes an
issue. You may remind me of this.

    What's the origin of streetfighter?

I mean as a pun it's quite good as bandit's regularly fight with the
    street... but otherwise?

It's rather a silly name really.

What gear is it jumping out of? 1st and 2nd by any chance?

I read somewhere that the RF900 doesn't have very good undercut on the
2nd gear dogs, and they are prone to jumping out. As you say, this could
be fixed cheaply without taking the top to bits.

Aye, 'tis second. Always the heaviest used/weakest. Pretty much
whenever I've heard of gearbox problems like this, it has been second
    gear at fault.

As I've prolly posted, it shouldn't be too much of a pain to sort out.
Ignoring all the usual rusted / rounded / snapped bolts and skinned
    knuckles of course.
