    1. Smoke coming off your wife's front tyre because she's braking *hard*;

    2. Your wife flying through the air and landing in the central reservation.

    Ulp...

Take one broken-down Range Rover and horse box, add a pair of
unobservant lorry drivers, and mix with a Merc that's trying to get out
of their way in a hurry.

Later, add 4 or 5 police cars, two ambulances, and a three-mile tailback
    on the A1.

Mrs Eddie is fine, apart from having sore knees and toes from how she
landed, and generally feeling a bit battered. Oh, and a sore finger from
the copper slamming it in a car door.

The bike looked a bit sorry for itself when it was jammed under the
Armco, but didn't seem too bad once it was upright. Repair estimates to
follow once we get the recovery company to release the bike to our
    friendly local mechanic.

She's already checked Autotrader to get an idea of the value, and we
    reckon not.

Carbon-fibre mudguard is the most expensive thing that definitely needs
replacing. The forks might be okay, they'll have to be checked.

It crashed surprisingly well; if it'd had the crash bungs that we never
quite got round to buying, it could almost certainly have been ridden
away (not that she would have wanted to).

I had some crash bungs for the 7R that I still hadn't got around to
    fitting when I demolished it.

Wouldn't have helped much, mind. Not unless they were about three foot
in diameter and poked out the front of the headlight.

Cheap flying lessons, eh? At least it wasn't on the central
reservation like someone from this Parish did.

Glad she's okay. Pass on the GWS's.

  14. I think that an assessor would write that off, actually. Depends if they
want to replace every single slightly scuffed bit with new.

How did it happen, exactly? Whose fault?

That awful moment when you just hope to God she's ok.
I'll let Pat know when she gets home, but I'm sure she'll add her GWS
    to mine.

Unless, of course, it was early this morning south of Ch-le-St, in
which case she might have been caught up in it ...

Well, here's the list I've made so far, including what I've noticed that
    might just be scuffed:

    Mudguard
    Forks
    Screen
    Clutch lever
    Mirrors
    Bar end
    Gear lever
    Coolant outlet thingy
    Seat
    Rear indicator

    Anybody want to place bets?

As our friendly local mechanic will be doing the repair, we've probably
got pretty good control over how much it costs.
Broken down Range Rover and horse trailer on dual carriageway section of
    A1, no hard shoulder.
Two lorries (foreign plates, Scottish company) blocking everybody else's
    view of RR and trailer.
Front lorry starts braking (too late to stop before RR) and moving out
    to get round RR.
    Second lorry does the same.
(At this stage, I'm already thinking "oh, ****", as I'm following Clare.)
(I can't remember if the Merc was between the two lorries, or had just
    come up along side them.)
Merc starts braking and, I think, moves completely into lane 2 to avoid
being the filling in a lorry sandwich, and in doing so moves in front of
Clare (and moves to right of lane 2, blocking her escape route to
    central reservation).
Clare brakes hard (and she says she tried to aim for the central
reservation), smoke from front wheel; almost made it, but just touches
Merc's bumper (there's a perfect tyre print, but no damage), which flips
    her off.

As for fault: I dunno. First lorry for not noticing breakdown sooner?
Merc for pulling out in front of bike rather than getting squashed?

I don't know if the police are pursuing it further. They didn't seem
    particularly competent at the scene.
