Things to remember before calling for rescue.

  1. This firm I'm with have given me a company bike. They're all a bit shit
and the one I've got has done nearly 115,000 miles and it shows.

Today, whilst sitting at the lights waiting to turn left, the engine
stops dead. I push it up the road and phone for assistance.

"It's the sidestand switch", pronounces my controller. "They all do
    that"

So I got on my hands and knees, ripped the wires out, wiggled the
connectors and cleaned them as best a could and stuck it all back
    together again.

Still nothing so I got back on the phone.

"Want me to call the AA to get it towed to the workshop?" He says. "Yes
    please", says I.

2 hours is the waiting time for rescue so I accept my fate and roll a
    fag.

That's when I noticed the kill switch ;-)

  4. I was hoping someone would ask me about that.

R850R, BMW. Actually not a bad bike once you get used to it's little
quirks and dare I say <spit> that it's a lot more fun to ride than my
    CBR.

It's the second one I've had and this one's not as bad as the last.
Apart from the plague of false neutrals it's relatively relaxing ride.
Yep. First time for everything. Must have been the muffs. They're a bit
flappy ATM and need the mirrors and/or bar ends putting through.

    A 115K R850R - I wonder which firm you are working for then? ;-)

Oh well it's good to know there's still potentially another 95K left in my
    boxer yet.

Bollocks, I was just about to add my usual anti-BMW statement.

  7. I know. It's utterly horrible and I fear that long hours together will
see the demise of the Honda :-(

    Yep, it's them ;-)

I did think "oops" after posting, but there's so many of them.
These have got a strict "5,000 miles, in for a service" policy. It still
sounds like a tractor when you start it though.

  9. Bad form and all that but could you preach the sermon anyway?

I'm off out on it again in a minute...

I still remember vividly when the thumb of a new pair of thick winter
gloves hit the kill switch on my GPX when I went to change indicators on
a big roundybout. Interesting effect, turning the engine off whilst
    changing direction & leaning.

My old ZXR had an electrical fault at one point where it would do that
kind of thing all by itself. Only with the added benefit of it flicking
back on at random. And off. And on again. Usually in a bend.

Watching the tacho swing from 1-14k rpm while sitting stationary at
a junction, with the engine speed not actually changing at all, was
    entertaining, if not quite right.

  13. Nope. I seem to be doing alright with the one I've got.

CTTOI, I think I saw our mutual friend yesterday, pegging it along the
    Marylebone Road.
