Things that leak green...

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by DoinitSideways, Feb 1, 2004.

  1. Managed to collect a nice little stone today, in the radiator fins of my 98
ZX9. Sure enough, it resulted in a fine green mist spraying out through the
    air outlets.

Does anyone know whether there things can be welded at all?. If not, what
sort of price ranges am i looking at for a new, used or aftermarket
    replacement radiator?

  2. Is it spraying all the time? Or just when heating up/cooling down?

Didn't you watch MacGyver? Jeez, all you need is an egg and some black

You should be right, no major dramas. Go down to a good radiator repair shop
and they can do a recore for you. I think the '98 models are still a flat
radiator (as compared to the more modern curved ones) so are pretty easy to
replace. Chances are he can fit you up with an even better one than stock!

You might like to ponder what you have written, and perhaps rephrase it in a less suggestive way?!!

Either that, or re-post in one of the personals groups.

  11. The design of the current VFR & VTR regarding the side twin radiators
    looks good now.
The obvious question to Josh: Were you asking for trouble, by trailing up
the exhaust pipe of a mate in front?
Next, purchase one of those aftermarket radiator guards that advertise
    in the mags'.

Funny how they were standard till they fell foul of the weigh loss scales of
the sportsbike makers desiring to reduce the weight of each model, and
sacrificing something practical on the road, but not an issue on the
    racetrack.
So much for Kawa saying their bikes are road biased.

  13. The design of the current VFR & VTR regarding the side twin radiators
    Great for them...
I didnt say that it wasnt my fault for trailing, we were having some fun and
i paid the price...now i just need to know the best way out. Dont regret it
tho, just wish it didnt happen.
That will deffinately be on the list when i get this pinhole fixed.

As for the weight loss stuff, i'd tend to agree there. My old GPz had an oil
and water radiator which both had the gaurds on the front.

  14. Just a lucky guess, as bike rear tyres flick out lot's of rocks
compared to cars, as most of the wheel is contained in the wheel well.
The price of showing off that big fat tyre & a token mug guard.

I just had my R6 radiator done after collecting a loose stone.

Took it in to the radiator guys and it cost about $40 bucks.
Still going strong and I saved $250 off the cost of a new one.

A bad radiator repairer will probably do the job just as well... probably
charge less too. People find the good radiator repairers by picking up the
yellow pages and going to the nearest one.
