    Filling in tax returns.
Oh well, out of the way for another year, and before Sept 30th for a
    change..

U all declare your income safely, now ;-)

I managed to do mine in good time, then got the statement back
informing me that I owed *eek* thousand pounds in tax for last year.

I'd only left the "tax paid" box blank on the return. Buggrit!

Old people, that's what I hate, especially at filling stations with
their arthritic, myopic, parked too far from the pump and can't get
the nozzle in so I'll have to get back into the car and pull forward
and their "Oh dear, how do these automated pumps work. it wasn't like
this in the good old days when there used to be a man to serve you",
    brain befuddled slowness.

Although I quite like them when they call me 'young man'.

    Oh, that.

    Ginge says...
I'm still putting mine off :(

What annoyed me this year is that they didn't even send me a form because I did it online
last year. I _need_ the form, it took me months last time, filling in a little bit at a
time, forehead all creased in concentration.

All the old people in my family have done the honourable thing and
died - or moved to Belgium.

You may come to regret not filing it sooner.

A completely new computer system for handling them should be going live this
weekend. They wanted me to be on call, but I'm 'unavailable'.

And yet, can this be true; in a recent search for famous Belgians I
    came upon:

    Famous Belgian #93
Jean Joseph Etienne Lenoir (1822-1900), is generally credited with
designing the world's first internal-combustion engine.

Which is why there are invoices, bank statements and other such things.

    I see.

Well if you ever hear of one again, it's something people with proper
jobs have to fill in. Don't worry about it.
