Thieving scum...

  1. ...broke into my van last night in Long Eaton and lifted a few good
things, plus a load of tat which mostly got left in a nearby alley.

Stolen items include my Oxford motorcycle tailpack - complete with
sleeping bags, stove and overnight stuff, the wife's paint smeared
signwriting coat(!), new eyeliner and hand mirror, two torches and a
sanyo CD player - all post coded! Oh, plus a (hidden bottle) of
Jamesons which I had just been given!

Curiously untouched things were a toolbox, jack, circular saw sleeping
mats, mallet and bags of morris sticks <VBG>. Three copies of Black
Pig Border Morris "Roll a ferret for Jesus" albums for sale!

Lifted and abandoned items include, morris sheet music and other stuff
in a folder, belly dancing wear and acoutrements,

Even more curious he left us a pikey Alba CD player in exchange for
    the Sanyo...

Presumably some transvestite hedge dosser in need of some good music,
a torch-enabled light show and booze...

Anyone seen hiking with a tail pack styled rucksack, a bottle in one
hand and a cool bag containing a CD player in the other deserves
    anything he gets....

Must be the time of year.

My work van also was broken onto in Pikeyville (Read as Purfleet, Essex)
    last Wednesday.
Arrive at site. Get out. Lock van. Set alarm.
Walk 20 paces round past a Reception, pick up keys to lorry, walk back 20
    paces.
    Window smashed, alarm strangely silent.
Laptop gone in car seen leaving estate on 2 wheels round the corner.

    Glass everywhere.
    Window £46 from Mercedes.
Fitted in 20 mins by me.
    Laptop nowhere to be seen.
    Police..........eeeerrrrrm........Nah!
Crime number given NEXT day and statement given this morning!

  4. Serves you right for leaving a laptop in your car. Shame they didn't get
your home address and take your desktop too.

  5. You'd think the times that laptops being stolen from cages has been reported
on here that people wouldn't do it anymore !!

Common sense really, even if i'm just popping out of the car to pick up a
pack of ciggys and a copy of big n bouncy, then I always take valuables with
    me in the suckrack.

    It's not crap, tbh.

Leave a laptop on display, not least in a shithole like that, and you're
asking for it to go missing.

Well it was actually under a jacket at the time, but that ended up on the
    floor.

They'll take a chance on a wallet or mobile being in the jacket pocket, you
know, regardless of whether it happens to have a laptop hidden underneath
    it.

Transferring a laptop etc., to the boot when you first park up isn't too
clever either - you only need one scaghead to spot you putting it in there.

However, they do seem to be unusually keen in this case (maybe
something to do with two recent muggings?) and SOCO have now been and
found two fingerprints which made him (and me) very happy...

Just need to get the 1/4light replaced now...

1/4 lights are fixed windows in the rear of a vehicle at the side of the
rear passenger seats, such as those fitted to MK3 Escorts. If those
windows open they are called opening rear vents. If a piece of glass is
broken in the front doors then it is either a drop glass, fixed vent or
an opening vent. When we call the triangular window in a front door a
1/4 light we are using the technically incorrect term.

  16. Ok, I'll go for it, what is the correct term for the non-opening
"triangular window in a front door" which all the glass people I have
spoken to so far call a 1/4 light?

In my case it is now a 'temporary' 6mm thick piece of Lexan :)

Fixed vent. Any glass fitter worth his salt will call it that. 1/4 light
is the incorrect, but commonly used term
    'Bout normal for Nottingham, innit?
