I bought an unfaired bandit for the same reason. All that happened was
    my neck muscles got stronger.

Angie was in the car with me yesterday as I overtook a couple of bikes
on the A1081 (admittedly a dual carriage way, and admittedly I was
doing >100mph) and even she asked "why are those bikes going so
slowly" (I'd estimate they were doing the speed limit - 60mph).
    I can't claim (c) on that - it's from the RX-8 forum.

sure, sure - but my point is that an unfaired Bandit simply won't do
an indicated 186mph, which I have done on my 'blade many many times.
It's deep into "lengthy ban" territory.

The problem is the 'blade[1] just isn't that exciting to ride at
anything like legal speeds. My most enjoyable recent biking
experiences have been on the bloody BMW, FFS - it's just so rewarding
to ride a piece of old shit as fast as you can, scraping all manner of
stuff on the tarmac, and keeping up with or overtaking people on much
better bikes. I've vacillated over wanting/not wanting to run
sportsbikes on the road for years - I'm currently waning back into a
    slow phase.

If only Sweller would get his finger out and fix it[2]

[1] and other sportsbikes - it's not a Honda thing, honest.
[2] just kidding Simon...no rush really.

Are you looking for a newish bike or something older/cheaper

If they were brand new, you could write that down to running-in.

since you could do with a laugh, I'm looking for something like a 1-2
year old Kawasaki W650, or preferably a Triumph Thruxton.

Presumably you're hinting I might want your modded B12? Just as a
comparison, what spec is it, and how much?

they weren't. I don't recall seeing one more recent than an 06 plate.
Could still be possible, I guess - but all of them? no way.

In any case, does the running in regime really restrict speed that low
    in top gear?

nope. It's not someone particularly noted for being thick, so maybe
    it's a one-off. Having said that, he's not a high-volume poster, so
maybe I just haven't notice previous YTC incidents.

I'd prefer not to, if it's all the same to you.

I've mentioned wanting something similar to the above before (plus, if
you google you'll probably also find me slagging the things off).

If I were to list all the bikes I've owned, most of them fall into the
"slow" camp, with only really a couple of exceptions, so you shouldn't
    be totally surprised.

Rubbish. I know you've been over molly-coddling your new toy, but even
taking the recommendations literally you'd still be able to do 70-odd
in top gear without exceeding the rev 'limit'.

Assuming this is the "real" Darsy....you really are stepping backwards. I
think you would be bored shitless on either of those! My question was more
aimed at pointing to the FZ-1 WC just bought.

The B12 isn't quite up for sale yet. Be next month. I bought it for kinda
similar reasons after the Gixxer 1000. I didn't want to be bored, so it has
130bhp rear wheel with *huge* torque (1). The acceleration up to (say) 120
is up there with the litre sprotbikes (2) but the riding position doesn't
encourage much more speed. It's geared for about 150 tops but I doubt I've
pushed it over 130 more than a handful of times. The compensation for the
loss of high speed jinks is the exceptional wheelie/stoppie performance and
the radical looks. It's done around 20K now and will be released back into
the wild for around 3k. www.photobox.co.uk/album/1788003 though it has black
wheels and proper twin Cibies now.

    (1) you don't do many miles so the tyre shredding capability won't worry
    you!
    (2) but you won't go so crazy as the front wheel will be high in the air...

As I said already in this thread, I enjoyed riding my 1982 R65LS more
than I do the 'blade. I'm not intending to slow down completely - I
still have an RGV250 track bike (and I am vaguely thinking of outing
this and buying a faster /track/ bike)
far too expensive for what they are. Plus, I don't have a garage at
the moment, and I've seen from experience what happens to Yamahas left
    outside year-round.
although it looks quite nice (apart from the cats-asshole exhaust),
    there's no wa y I'd pay 3K for a 11 year old Bandit.

    and to me.
actually, buying something that hardly anyone else likes is very me
    i.e. SZR660, TRX850, CCM R30 etc.

You *think* I have, but you'd be wrong. I've been taking it sensibly,
nothing more. It's fair to say I've seen 3 figure speeds with the bike
fully warmed up, obviously. And have used full throttle, for breif
    periods.
An indicated 65, at 4K as I stated in my other post. Lame.

If your R30 was as loud as the one I hear around and about Slough then
I'm not surprised no-one likes them. It's just plain offensive!

It's probably a mid-life crisis thing, if you had a toupee and a corset
you'd be sniggered at in the pub. If you've got a SuziKawaHonda
GSXGTiGofaster and you're a tearaway who's regained their youth.

It's not, it's a custom bike, which suits some and not others. The original
base unit used isn't terribly relevant.

possibly not. As I said in the other post, I'm more interested in a
    Thruxton.

Of course, **** knows what I'll end up buying...
