Being a habitual speeder is fine as long as you keep looking in your
mirrors and don't gas it too much trying to catch up with the faster
    bike in front.

Riding back along the road to see where a missing rider has got to and
then riding back past them for a second time when they're sat in a cop
car isn't too clever when the rider in the car tells the questioning
plod that they do in fact know the rider on the bike that disappeared
    into the distance.

Feel free to ask how I know these things.

I've come to appreciate that some people like to loon and some people
like to bimble. For me, it depends on the mood.

I hibernate all winter and then reappear on a bike as soon as it warms
up so feel free to give me the finger if you happen to overtake me on
either a twisty road or if I slow you down when I'm filtering.

I generally reckon to need about 10 miles of riding to get to a level
where I'm feeling confident on a bike but as soon as the roads get
greasy in the autumn I just lose all interest in riding a bike. If
that makes me a lesser rider then I really don't care any more.

    Don't forget not everyone is a phenomenally-talented natural rider;
one man's hoon could well be another's bimble. I'm not exactly going
to trouble the FBC myself, but hopefully I wouldn't be completely left
    behind.

  8. It's not just a matter of speed. It's road positioning, road use, oh,
everything, that just says a helluva lot of people out there today were
    devoid of clue.

And these buggers put up my insurance ;-)

I thouht that as I was filtering past a line of shiny bikes yesterday going
into Macclesfield. At the head of this queue was a plodmobile, but as he was
barely moving, I passed him too, then had to stop at the lights. Plod pulled
up alongside me and pointed backwards with his thumb and rolled his eyes.
Even he thought sitting in a line of cars was a daft idea if you're on a
    bike.

    Their frames of
But get them on a road with no obstacles/traffic and they're Rossi.
Obviously both close to losing their licenses due to an uncontrallable urge
    to ride really quickly.
It's fucking boring is what it is. Specially when they're weaving around
"making attemtps to look speedy" and blocking the progress of everyone else
and your forced to sit in line.

    For
    As you should.

I take your point Neil but I've never been one for riding that much
above speed limits so I'm probably in your namby pamby biker category
anyway. With all of the restrictions being introduced on roads in terms
of reduced speeds, more double white lines, cameras, police checks and
endless publicity about death and accidents I actually don't blame
people for riding like grannies. Who needs the hassle?

Perhaps they should have gone out in shorts, string vest and trainers
instead. Personally I was out yesterday in all my padded gear. T'was
bloody warm when stood still but fine when moving.
Maybe they don't care that heavily about the image they portray. I don't
ride a bike 'cos I think I look cool. Most people who know me say I look
like a prat when all dressed up. I'm long past caring.

I'll own up to being a bit of a chicken-shit when riding. Partly due to
being a newbie and partly due to wanting to keep all the bits in the
right places. I do my best to get out of the way for others but I'm not
going to go hooning round just to keep every bugger else happy. I act in
a vaguely similar way when in a car. I'll happily do 65 on a 60 road and
overtake if I feel it's safe but I'm not going any faster just because
someone is sat 3 inches off my bumper. If they want past I'll move over
and ease off but I'm not going to change the way I drive just for them.
And I read a similar report about little twats that hang around street
corners of an evening getting pissed, pissing in the street, shouting
abuse at OAPs and other activities they seem to find perfectly
acceptable. You seem happy to perpetuate the speeding biker stereotype,
as is your prerogative. You simply need to be aware of the consequences
    and accept it.

You ride as you see fit, I'll do the same. If you feel the need to fly
past me at a ton plus then best of luck to you, no sarcasm intended.
Likewise, if another rider feels happy sitting in traffic, at the very
least until they get their riding heads back on after a winter break
    then that's up to them.

  13. Especially on a motorway, I don't get any more pleasure out of going
faster than my 10pc +2 - It'd only become a little more exciting when
I got into banning territory - Christofire is bob on with that one. On
SLC 60 limits I will tend to go a bit quicker but it isn't hard work
finding roads that are a challenge at legal speeds - that's probably
one of the advantages of being crap.

That said, a lot of bikers amaze me as I pass them while they sit in
lines of traffic. One of the main reasons I enjoy biking is that I
don't have to wait in queues, pretty much any queues really. Even as a
slow, mostly legal and crap rider I passed umpteen bikes between
Lincoln & Nottingham recently. This was more surprising given that a
good 80pc of cars moved over and made it easy.

Other assorted points from thread: yes I choose to wear protective
gear in all weathers; no I don't overtake as much when 2-up,
especially with my 8 yr old daughter on the back; and yes I do ride
all year. I have done so for the last 2 winters, and as someone in the
group once said, that's enough. We'll be a 2-car family by next Nov.

  14. That is, to be honest, a different issue. If you re-read, the problem
with this lot was, mostly, incompetent riding.

  16. Surprisingly few crashes on my foray out today. This time last year it
was crash a minute silly season. I'll probably hear about them all
    tomorrow or next weekend.

I do remember one serious hoon on a French Run - I think it was the one
to the Champagne region, and I'd just come from my referral to the Royal
Marsden cancer unit where I'd been told not to worry; I didn't have
cancer of the optic nerve or anything ,similar after all.

And I wrung that Ducati's neck for the whole weekend.....

  20. Some plonker on a Fazer thou went flying past me on the dual past Gwent
Police headquarters this afternoon but totally failed to filter up the
gap between cars for the roundabout. Needless to say I never saw him
    again.
