"These boys wanted to run"

I was on my way back from the office this morning where I had to go do
some paperwork. As I was getting ready to leave the gas station, I
heard this "whoom, whoom...whoomwhoomwhoom" from a couple bikes
leaving out. I figured I'd catch up to them and ride a bit if they
were going my way. I pulled out and went through the cars to get in
behind these two. Boy, they thought they were slick. They were both
riding older CBR900RR bikes that were modded. "That's cool" I thought.
While we came off the light to get on the service road, they were both
twitching to see who/what was behind them. They figured they'd run and
they hit the throttles to get on the highway. Okay, I'll run too. I'm
on the Hyper-Sport bike of the '90s and can take them either on a
straight or through traffic. I blipped the throttle, only to find
myself almost running through these bikes. Somewhere along the line
they got skeered and shut down behind the cars @ 65mph. I rode behind
them for about 41 yards and realized these boys didn't know jack. No,
I'm not jack, but they began switching lanes and swinging those bikes
so wildly that we were about to easily trade motorcycles. I was happy
with the bike I'm riding, so I picked my line and blasted through
between the cars. These two thought they'd keep up, but even with
thinner bikes they still couldn't get through the cars as I was. They
tried, and I'll give them props for their effort. But in the end these
two had no idea how to ride those bikes.

It's one thing to be sitting on a fast motorcycle. You flip the
throttle and run it. But you seriously have to know what to do with
the bike when you get there. These two were shining examples of riding
fast bikes but not knowing what to do.

For the brief time I was sitting behind them, I couldn't help but
notice the ultra fat back tires on the bikes. What's up with this?
I've got a 180 rear on the Blackbird and have to struggle to get it
into turns. The Hurricane has a 140 rear and will flip through turns
without effort. Manufacturers have found through track rides that the
fatter you go the harder it is to get into turns. Certainly you want a
large foot print on the pavement, but not at the expense of handling.
I figured even if we'd been in turns I'd still have smoked these two.

All in all, it was a nice short ride to get out and enjoy the sunshine
and some nice riding....even though it was city riding!

    Two Brians talking:

BryanUT...said...''BrianWalker...Takes a squid to know a squid. Hehe.
I am so impressed by ur riding skilz.
Seriously, have you done a track day? That is a humbling experience. You
    should try one sometime.
Leave the squids alone, it just encourages them.

lol.. You are labelled the slow one until you get headed back to the
    house..
No one wants to get in front of you in that direction.. That buzzard didn't
have a snow balls' chance in hell if you'd been going home..

Ed you probably have learned being the slow rider in the back of a
group can work out well.... it seems, just lately when yall got to
those deep water crossings, you apparantly realized you better stop, and
eventually turn around, ''because the faster riders dissapeared.. ''
    LOL
