Yebbut, the ones I looked at were completed auctions. Sold.

I probably would, yes. But people are funny things. Unles sthe auction
actually says it has new tyres, etc etc, they'll just assume that the
cheaper one is K and reckon they've saved £100.

I think, on the face of it, that yours is worth £1200-1300 all day
long. If you need want to sell it now, then as crn says, you might as
well hang on. My £995 price was just a starting price. Like I said,
people are strange. You might actually get more for it with a £995 SP
    than on a £1295 BIN.

These tits really annoy me. Especially, as you say, when they say
    "cash".

    "No, actually, I prefer beetroot."

I've actually let stuff go before now, when someone's contacted me to
offer a reasonable price because they're actually desperate for what
I'm selling, but otherwise, as you suggest, they can go forth and
    multiply.

Like I've said elsewhere, I'm not rigidly expecting the full money for
it... but when one puts something up for amount X and the offer made
isn't even in the same county, never mind postcode, it gets on my
fucking tits and is, to my mind at least, rude.

I've scored some cracking bargains in the past... and all of them were
down to something either being advertised at bargain price in the
first place, or I've asked someone what they want for something and
    they've named a price I agree with.

I've never tried to take the complete piss like some of these jokers.

I think most would tbh. ;-)
Well mine clearly stated all the work its had done... complete with
    huge bullet points etc. ;-)
    Indeed.

My old concern is the old man won't want to wait *that* long for the
money for the GSX, but we shall see - if mine is worth **** all at the
moment, he might need to be a bit realistic about what that's worth
    (1) too if he wants to see the money this side of xmas.
Fair comment... I might try that in due course, depending on how the
    conversation with Pater goes.
Aye... but then again it might be another whatever it costs at the mo
to list something, down the bog. ;-)

    (1) H plate GSX1100G, 19k from new, long MOT and tax... shedloads of
work done to it less than a thousand miles ago, all done by me
incidentally, bit of surface rust on the frame / bars etc, but
otherwise tidy for the year, and I've offered him £1350 for it, which
he's agreed to let it go for.

Not at all... but this is the worst time of year to sell a bike in my
experience - even worse than January / February, when the market picks
up due to people 'wanting to get something before the prices rise in
    the spring'.

All par for the course in a recession.
There are plenty of desperate sellers out there who are prepared to
accept whatever they can get to keep the wolf from the door.
The vultures are providing a necessary service and making a profit
    during hard times.

Such is life, if you are not desperate they will go away and look for
someone who needs their services. There is no shortage of willing victims.

    In general, yes.
Your best bet is to have a look to see what other bikes of that ilk
have recently fetched... and then go off on one when people
subsequently make you derisory offers nowhere near what you're asking
for it, despite other similar bikes fetching money in that ballpark...
    or something. ;-)

"In a recession" is totally redundant. These cunts don't need an excuse to
be stupid, they've already achieved that status.
Like there used to be? IIRC it was P.T. Barnham who said "The last sucker
hasn't been born" and that wasn't during this recession.
