A bird (winged variety) has just met its doom on my offside wing
    mirror at about 60mph.

You should have seen my lovely new jacket. GORE. The bird was
shredded by the mirror and then seemed to explode. I stopped off and
removed all that I could but my jacket, jeans and gloves are covered -
even my helmet has bloody smear marks all over it.

I got in, stripped off and threw everything in the washing machine.
    It looked awful.

I got a few funny looks at traffic lights.

Just makw sure you re-waterproof the jacket, or it'll end up a soggy rag
every time you go out in the rain.

Pah! I speeet (that's 'spit', not 'spete'...) on your English bird hits!

I mamagaed to bag an decent sized eagle with mirror then shin/knee guard in
Aus (U was *soooo* happy I was wearing the MX-style shin/knee guards...) as
well as another one with my MX boots (again, felt very little), ran over a
fucking big lizard and narrowly missed hitting an Emu/Ostrich thiny that
stood higher than me when on the bike.....

Oh, and locusts hurt. A lot. Even through MX boots. And the bastards
don't always die even when you smack into them/a swarm of them at 70mph....
    Bastards they are.

Naah. Most waterproof jackets will remain that way after washing. The
'special' detergents for gore-tex and the like are not to re-proof
them, but specially designed to ensure they don't clog it up and
    remove the breathability.

The waterproof spray stuff I've got, says it is ok for those type of
jackets. It's just nice to have a jacket that drips dry really quickly,
like when it was new. Having to get back into a soggy jacket, where the
cuffs are sodden still is not very nice.
