Do you intend to convert back to mpeg2 for DVD or just burn the files?
I tried to burn a DVD of some other downloads and it was pretty
hopeless. Any tips?

 

The ones I've got are DivX, which iirc is mpeg4. Either way, I've no
urgent need to convert to DVD or (S)VCD, as my PC's set up as a
crude media station type thang anyway, and playing on that does the
job.
