  3. Around goodison park it is mainly residents only parking but there are
several 'free' parking spaces and in one of these I park regularly.
There was no painted lines to put the car in and the post with the
sign was above my bonnet so I know that 99% of the car would have been
within a box had there been one. still didn't stop me getting a
ticket, I've appealed but that just means that I'll have to pay twice
the amount when they deny it as it is now after the 'get a 50%
reduction in cost if you pay within 14 days'.

Was in the local Post Office yesterday. As usual the street outside was
total chaos, cars parked both sides, lorries double parked to unload. No
room for anybody to go anywhere. Traffic starting to back up in both
directions as cars, lorries and buses try to pass through. Parking is legal
and allowed on the one side. Double yellows on the other to maintain flow.
Plenty of off road car parking spaces at 4 separate locations in a High
Street 600 yards long.Along comes a woman in a 4x4, mounts the kerb and
parks on the pavement right outside the door to the Post Office. Out she
gets and in she comes, muttering about the queue. Two minutes later in comes
the local policeman. Bellows "Who owns this vehicle on the pavement outside"
Woman replies "It's mine, I will only be 5 minutes and then I will move it"
Policeman replies "Please move it immediately, it is causing an obstruction
and I am going to ticket you if you don't, there is a car park to the rear
of this building which is free of charge to use" Woman says "I will be 5
minutes only and turns her back" Policeman goes outside and commences
ticketing the vehicle. Woman screams and goes outside, more yelling and foot
stomping. Car gets ticket. Policeman continues down the High Street and as I
was leaving the car park to drive home he was ticketing somebody else for
    obstructing the road.
Sometimes people are just asking for it. If we all parked selfishly just
where we want to to suit ourselves I wonder if any of us would ever get
    anywhere.

A good Policeman - gave a chance to clear - she refused - she got ticketed

  7. Yep. It's gotten so bad that the privatised wardens in Manchester were
getting so many tickets bumped out on appeal that they now have digital
cameras to photograph the car, the lines/restrictions and the building
    outside which the offence occured.

  8. We all know about Sir.T, wonder how his Escort Cabriolet with the leaky
    roof is ATM.

  9. I didn't know S.T had an Escort Cabriolet. The leak must be deliberate,
it makes the inside steam up quicker.

Brighton and Hove has one of the highest ticket issue rates and lowest
successful appeal rates. Which probably tells you more about the
mongtastic parking abilities of the locals and visitors.

In any case, towns and cities where there are far more cars than space
some form of regulation is needed.

I think it tells you more about the incredible rip-off parking charges
in Brighton £12 a day? Are they on drugs?

TBH honest I'd say the the answer is far from it and you've been
disingenuous by quoting for the very centre (The Lanes etc).

30 minutes walk from Western Road (the main shopping street) it's just
    £2.10 for 12 hours, 15 - 20 minutes walk to The Lanes it's £5 for nine
    hours.

For those that don't know, Brighton (and Hove) has a high population in a
    relatively small area with flats as the the predominant type of housing;
particularly in the centre. It also has a congestion problem.

There's limited off street parking and on street parking under pressure
particularly when there's a high influx of visitors but again, along the
seafront and most other central on-street is still only £1 an hour up to
    9 hours.

Recently there's been huge investment in public transport with the bulk
of the buses being less than two years old and an understandable, all
night and regular tubesque line system implemented; an all day unlimited
    ticket is £2.60.

That's in addition to the park and ride system and the seven railway
    stations within BN1, BN2 and BN3.

Residents have a permit system with, IIRC, two cars per council tax bill.
I didn't have to go on waiting list when I needed one in central Hove.
Currently I live on the boundary of the system (off Portland Road), don't
need a permit and can still park near enough outside my front door.

These measures, which are enforced, means it's fairly easy to get about,
go shopping and the like; the endemic double parking; blocking of
entrances has gone and spaces are available.

The parking and traffic problem is being fairly well managed and you're
the one 'on drugs' or spectacularly dim if you can't work out how to park
reasonably cheaply in Brighton and Hove.
