Hmmpph. Even my mate Stevie is off to America - and takes great joy in
    mentioning it at every opportunity!

I haven't recently had the chance, but I always used to like doing
highly inappropriate and flippant nonsense on NYE.

Like once, before any franchises opened in Northern Ireland, 4 of us
drove to Dublin on NYE in my Stage-2 Mini to get Burger King, despite
the fact none of us liked Burger King. I managed to have a great time
despite being the only one sober. Strange.

Things are potentially apocalyptic around here at the moment, so
there's some chance of my doing something stupid this coming NYE.

I quite fancy going to a dinner party.

  4. We went to one of those murder mystery things a few years ago on NYE.
Top food, and the 'suggested' conversations made a nice change from
pointing out how much Terry Wogan's aged or some bollocks about
resolutions you know you're not going to keep.

  5. well at least it gave you the opportunity to post something and to
divert a small amount of your brain power away from your job for a few
    seconds.

I'll probably go to bed early, missing it all.
I like dinner parties. They have a number of the things that I like
best: good food, good booze, and conversation.

  7. here being home or work? sounds a bit dire.
    <veers slightly off topic>
this will probably induce a violent reaction from you but I saw one of
those "friends for dinner" programmes where a celebrity chef pops round
to assist / lumber the unwilling "good amateur cook" with a range of
dishes to cook for dinner. The cook is question was Gordon Ramsey who
had the lowest opinion possible of the person he was supposed to be
helping. The guy in question was an intolerable wanker though. Somehow
I could see you giving Gordon Ramsey a hard time at a dinner party.

As an aside have you tried this place?

I had lunch there the other day - I thought it was very good.

that'd actually be my first choice.
dinner parties are the best. Even if you don't manage much in the way
    of "dinner".

    err, something like that.
I think I've seen that. Gordon Ramsey doesn't bother me too much, to
be honest. Though I'd have to belittle him appropriately and just
refer to him as "the cook".
    nope, but...
....it looks pretty good. I don't get over St.James way much these
    days, mind you.

Well I *am* doing Xmas this year. Linda said so.

I'm doing it at the in-laws.

Linda's decided that, in order for it to be a surprise, we've got to
    go by bike.

    On December 22nd.

If we turn up, after slogging all day through Gawd knows what weather,
and find out they've buggered off somewhere else, I think I shall
laugh and laugh until there's absolutely no trace of the body,
    whatsoever.
