My vote is for trying to remove baked-on gasket and/or gasket compound
    without scratching the mating surfaces.

The easy and cheap way is to use oven cleaner on the gaskets. Leave for a
while, and then they will be soft enough to be removed pretty easily.

  5. You can buy special gasket scrapers for that, but take a kitchen knife,
cut it square at the end and blunt the end edge a bit.

Or just use an agnle grinder.

As many oven cleaners dissolve aluminium this is a really stupid idea. As
well as softening gaskets it would be likley to cause pitting on the mating
surfaces. It is easy to see how you could end up spending £1000 trying to
rebuild a simple 2-stroke twin engine such as an RD250 (cf. RD250 thread
above). Most of it would be spent repairing the fuckups that you were
responsible for. You REALLY are a clueless **** aren't you?

I wonder how many years you have worked in the motorcycle trade, and how
many engines you have rebuilt during that time?

  9. I wonder how many engines you had your hands on that came back in for
    further rectification work?

Feel free to wonder as much as you like. Then get round to explaining why
using aluminium-dissolving chemicals on aluminium mating surfaces is a good
idea. No wonder your business went bust.

    Easy.

Refitting the carb rubbers on a GPz900R.

Five minutes alone in a locked room with the designer, that's all I ask.

Y'know there's a pattern here. I can't quite put my finger on it, but
    there's a definite pattern.
