"The little beasts are agitated because they have nothing to eat".

They'll be moving from dogs to people soon, mark my words. Notice the
fledgling alliance with the chipmunks allready. Be afraid, be very afraid.

"They are said to have scampered off at the sight of humans, some
    carrying pieces of flesh."

    No wonder they legged it.

Heh. Ten gets you one that the fuckers are rabid (assuming this story's
    true).

  6. Well, it achieved mention of Lazo, which nobody had heard of before, so
    it worked fine.

I was working with a Chinese guy a week or so back, who was *stunned*
that the Harbin water pollution story made the BBC news page.

"Why would you care about what's happening in Harbin?"

    I couldn't think of a good answer.

    (a) We are fundamentally good people who are concerned at
    others' suffering.

    (b) We are venal and shallow people who are amused at
    others' suffering.

    (c) Reports such as that reinforce the belief our socio-economic
    system is superior.

    Ooh, cop out!

    Come on! Make a decision!

What are you, afraid of commitment or something?

    Oops...

  11. (d) the BBC is a well respected news organisation that sees it as its
duty to inform people about world events. The events in Harbin qualify
as a suitably serious situation that warrants the world's attention in
terms of offering to help or as a minimum learning the lessons from that
incident. What happens in Harbin today could happen elsewhere tomorrow.

    How did I do?
