In full effect: the PSU for that netbook just turned itself into a
    smoking husk.

Please, we're auditing a few PSU odm/oem mfr's at the moment and are
    looking for failed units.

Obviously we have a few failed units, but anything extra is always a
    bonus.

Was it totally out of the blue ?

Was the PSU ever used in a laptop bag or always in the open air ?

Were there any nasty kinks or missing shielding on the DC cable ?

I presume so - the doris plugged it in, the laptop wasn't getting any
juice, next thing I know she's telling me it's gone bang and started
spewing out smoke. All relayed to me via MSN.

God knows, this is the one I bought off JackH a week or so ago.

    Not that I'm aware of.

Heh. Last time I buy used electronics - total expenditure just passed
the price of a new one.

23 quid for what claims to be a genuine one. Could've tried a no-brand
copy from ebay but didn't fancy going shopping for another one in a
    couple of weeks' time.

Ok... email me where you'd like the money sent for the PSU.

Not necessary, unless you insist - it was working when I bought it and
there was no talk of a warranty.

I insist - had you had it a month plus, different matter maybe.

You've had it five minutes, so only fair I cough for it.
