  1. Ducati were much the same, in that era.

Once you've caught them on a bad day...

Mind you, it's always worth ten minutes random entertainment wandering
up to their stand at a bike show & asking for a quote - when they reach
the "is it modified" question you smile your best manic grin & say "no
idea, what's standard for one?". Gnash sometimes try to tell folk that
the bike must be absolutely standard but how many SOBBs are there left
with no pattern parts fitted? They originally refused to cover the SFC
when I told them I'd replaced the unobtanium rusty collector box with a
nice shiny stainless one but I phoned back & spoke to a less stupid
droid & she was okay with it.

I'm probably moving my insurance to Footman James this year - got a
quote from them at the NEC & when they asked if it was modified I said
not yet and reeled off the things I want to change. They didn't bat an
eyelid at any of it[1] so I eventually asked what they would get upset
about & she sort of shrugged & said something about capacity increases.
Wonder if I could persuade them that a 1200 conversion was simply
because it was easier to get the 1200 pistons than the 1000 ones...

[1] switchgear, brake calipers, belt primary, new ignition, CV carbs...
of course, this is all finance permitting :-(
