The road toll is our fault

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Uncle Bully, Jan 26, 2006.

  1. I do however more experience from the other end than some motorcycle riders,
there are 2 sides to every story, and many may acknoweldge & learn from the
    other side.
Still it is done, I didn't say that it is a policy of aus.motorcyles.
I agreed there are many good riders but also some temporary bad ones.

  2. If the rider wasn't going too quick it wouldn't be a problem, so I wouldn't
    care.
I've watched a bike lanesplit to go straight ahead, between 2 lanes turning
left, somehow thought he could make it and ended up into the side of turning
boxtrailer. I could see the indicators 3 cars back.

I watched another lanesplit daily for months before he had to go through a
garden fence when he eventually discovered turning buses usually used both
of the 2 lanes to turn right.

A mate had a guy on a bike wipe himself out on his car door when his missus
threw it open suddenly at night to puke at the lights. Yeah blame here but
she didn't expect a bike to come barrelling past at 40kph while stopped.
Fast lanesplitting seems to be dangerous. Maybe, lane splitting isn't really
dangerous at all, for car drivers anyway. The balls in the riders court to
be careful about it and many are, the few that aren't I just don't want to
clean off my door or ute tray please.

The longer he has to see you the greater the chance that he will hit
you. If you blat past he has less chance of hitting you. One thing
they teach at motorcycle training is to keep moving through the traffic,
don't just sit there in the one spot.

You realise that you've forgotten the most important thing that you were
probably taught when you learned to drive... to constantly use your
mirrors. I think you'd probably just about fail your driving test
nowadays if you only checked your mirrors 4 times per minute.

Those fuckwits on two wheel tractors seem to have it worked out
they BLAT past at 140kph with straight through exhausts
you definitely know they are there but are too fast for you to do
    anything about it
    like open the door
    :)

You don't have to check your mirrors
you just wait until a bright light appears in the mirror so you know to
speed up to get away from it
    :p

  10. Ok I concede it is safe at any speed to sip between moving cars on a
    motorbike.
    There, happy.

  11. Oh wheel what is it called then, when riding between moving cars, and one
    ahead of you changes lanes?
    You might but others don't.
Ahh ok I haven't got any better road awareness than the average driver, ok
you know me well, then I can reply, you haven't got any bike/car awareness
    better than the averager rider.

Yup, blame the old people. That always works. They're not on the internet
much to defend themselves. And all young people know that it's the old
drivers that have all the accidents, not the
    quick-reacting-just-off-the-P-Platers, or the ultra-confident
    bin-driving-for-five-years-maters.

Guess why all those old people whose driving skills and knowledge has not
been retested for 40 years get their insurance so damn cheap.
