    Fx: manic giggles

Thanks to the hard work, blood, sweat and near tears of Pip and Loz,
    the Rat passed its MOT.

Pip returned from the MOT giggling like a loon ... I now understand
    why :)

This morning I took it out for the first time and it is indeed an
absolute hoot. Turning onto the A507 I spied an R1 with colour coded
rider, target acquired. I prayed that he would turn left at the
roundabout as that was where I was heading and to my joy he did. OK,
so he made some progress up the dual carriageway but I had caught him
by the top. he made a nice little overtake, I followed. He looked in
the mirrors and I'm sure there was a "what the **** is that?" double
take. I politely waited for him to make the next move, he didn't ...
    so I did.

For an aged 400cc The Rat (1) certainly moves when you get it into its
narrow power band, thus enabling me to make short work of the next
series of cages. The R1 (I'm sure it shied away as I passed) seemed to
have lost the will to live and I watched it fall further and further
behind. By this time I was giggling.

On approaching the edge of Bedford the traffic grew heavier but
strangely enough all the cars seemed to move out of the way as The Rat
and I filtered past them, nice. It was amusing to see other bikers
nodding and then turning their heads to try and work out what the hell
    the bike was.

I'm certainly looking forward to commuting to college on it. Already
the surfeit of scooter riders there seem to be in awe of the CBR so
feck knows what they're going to think when this thing lands this
    coming Wednesday.

I can honestly say I've not had this much fun on a bike for *many*
years. The CBR is wonderful, easy to ride, fast, stops beautifully.
The Rat tops out at a ton, has interesting braking characteristics and
handles well although the weave through long corners is a little
disconcerting. However, you really have to *ride* it to get the best
out of it and that in itself is fun. It's going to bring planning and
anticipation to a new level for me and I'm really looking forward to
    it.

    (1) The Rat has now been re-christened Spike due its similarity in
appearance to the cartoon bulldog of the same name.

I *really* don't think Bedford is ready for those kind of
    shenannigans.

I was once given the nickname Spike on a training course for just the
same reason. Perhaps you want to consider chosing a new name for the Rat
or otherwise you've got the Big Camp Bike? <g>

Considering the prevalent sexuality, I think the terminology would be
closer to Little Bi Bike, actually.
