One possible stumbling block (which we often hit in the office when
designing drainage). With the screw formation, there will be a maximum
rate of flow for the water going down the pipe. In a torrential rain, it
might not be quick enough and you'd end up with it backing up.

Often, a slight kink at the top would be enough to cause the water to
swirl down the sides on the inside of the pipe, so it doesn't fall all the
way to the bottom in a straight line. :)

Perhaps the screw thread could facilitate connecting lengths of pipe up
using a short externally threaded insert?

    Right,

It sounds like its too much hassle so to make it non patentable and there
fore so it is available for anyone, here it is

Waking up the other morning I was just in that state of half awake/half
asleep. However there was this 'nagging' sound(no not SWMBO). It was the
regular DRIP, DRIP, DRIP as water drained off the roof and droppped the 8
or so feet down the drainpipe just outside the bedroom window and hitting
the 120 degree bend where it meets the roof(we have a dormer bedroom).

So the idea, Why can't the drainpipe manufacturers make drainpipes that
have a 'screw' type internal(sort of helter skelter) so the water would
run down the spiral hence making no sound as it exited the bottom.

I call this 'The Quiet Drainpipe'

So there you go, first one to the Patent Office gets it. I will take my
pleasure from seeing it the marketing success that it will most certainly
    be.

I totally agree, WebSphere Admin is always going to be a better career
    choice.

There is also the problem of moss & leaves. With an insert in the pipe
you can't shove a rod up/down to remove a blockage.

Rexx's idea could be adapted using firearms technology. Rifle the
drainpipe to make the water swirl in the pipe rather than freefall

ITYF that was Entwisi's idea - and the whole point of his original post!

Quite a lot of people collect rainwater in low-level tanks for domestic
use. It's fine for toilet flushing as is, but obviously you need some
half-decent filtration and bug-killing gear for use in the taps.

A decent-sized tank would tax the ability of the average house to
support it, being around the 1-2000gal mark for suitable reserve.

There's quite a bit about it to be found in the past of

I spent 6 months last year trying to get my web app to run on
Websphere. It'll run virtually without modification on every other
major app server and yet on Websphere... nowt, zip, nada.
