The Oxford Harley saga continues (bunch of $£%£!)

  1. So: statistical sampling of Harley dealers: two. Number of twats: two.
Doesn't bode well for the rest of the network, does it?

They still make a living selling stuff to "H-D customers", though.

IIRC in the US they sell every bike they make, and have waiting lists.
Sounds like they need to look at their pricing strategy.

    Bit of a common theme.

Someone I know ordered a new [expensive] HD from the dealer in Manchester.
He asked for a t-shirt for his 7 year old only to be told no problem -
£15 - he IMO quite rightly told them they were a rather miserable bunch and
to shove the bike. He bought an *onda

  6. Exactly what I was thinking. I can't believe *any* dealer not throwing
    in a T-shirt with a new bike.

Not to mention ordering the bike would require a non refundable deposit,
which if he walked out evidently hadn't been paid.

Sounds more like the bloke walked in and tried to blag a free t-shirt.

It's like that (obviously bullshit) story about a guy who goes to a
pub in leathers, and is turned away. Goes back later in a suit,
orders a pint and then asks the landlord "I thought you don't serve
    bikers".

ISTR some dullard trying to claim that story here, but had embellished
it with minor details about going home to put on his best "marks and
sparks" suit and grey slip-ons. That might be the funniest thing I've
ever read. Wish I could find it on google.

Spoiled for choice really. There are at least 4 ukrmers claiming that
    story:

Dave Swindell says his SO's brother did it:

    http://groups-beta.google.com/group/uk.rec.motorcycles/browse_thread/thr
    ead/8fd69c24f9866c4f/52d85d2b7ea2e85c?q=don%27t+serve+bikers+pub+group:u
    k.rec.motorcycles&rnum=3&hl=en#52d85d2b7ea2e85c

... and in the same thread Bear follows up saying he's done that
    "several times".

In this thread CDC says it happened to "Mental":

    http://groups-beta.google.com/group/uk.rec.motorcycles/browse_thread/thr
    ead/c659e98262b273d/662f15bf7486b726?q=don%27t+serve+bikers+pub+group:uk
    ..rec.motorcycles&rnum=1&hl=en#662f15bf7486b726

And way back in the distant past Mike Gleavy says he did the walk out
    thing:

    http://groups-beta.google.com/group/uk.rec.motorcycles/browse_thread/thr
    ead/1ddfb168957068f/4671d3d7bedeb7a1?q=don%27t+serve+bikers+pub+group:uk
    ..rec.motorcycles&rnum=4&hl=en#4671d3d7bedeb7a1

It's obviously much more common than any of us might have guessed!

  12. Why do you think it's bullshit? I've had similar happen to me. Gave my
father a lift and stopped for a pint on the way, both served no
problems, I was in normal casual attire. Next day, same pub, similar
clothing but this time on bikes with my brother and refused service.
When I queried it and pointed out I'd been served the day before was
told. "Should have come in your fucking car - we don't serve bikers."
Well exactly, nobody would own up to a M&S suit.

  13. Wish I'd been there.

I also recall on lunchtime visiting a pub with a mate[1] and at the
time a work colleague when I worked for Vokes in the late '70s. On
being told no motorcycles CJ arguing in best prisoner fashion that he
    wasn't a motorcycle he was a person.
I suspect older, lets face it with the stupid price of insurance (for
the young) and the increased difficulty of gaining a licence the
average age must now be in the 38 - 45 band, rather than 17 - 21 it
    used to be.

[1] Top bloke, but in his teens and early 20s would occasionally deal
with problems by using large amounts of inappropriate violence.

That happened in a pub locally. The whole story was recounted in the
Bedford on Sunday paper. The culprit was the Peter Parker, the same
bloke who got done for riding his BMW C1 without a helmet

Bear emerged from their own little world to say

If you owned a country pub in a quiet backwater which would you prefer? A
bunch of ramblers covering the place in mud as they buy half a shandy to
wash down their packed lunch. Or a load of corpulent bikers who happily
scoff down three courses and a couple of pints of overpriced Pepsi?
