Isn't that just around the S bend from Disney world?

That goes some way to explaining things... I tend to ride naked bikes,
    or bikes
with small half fairings at best...

If it was hiding in Johno's letterbox that would explain why he was
    afraid to ride past it!

True... but then I tend to wear long thermals in winter and thermal
    singlets as well :)

Actually the signposted turnoff to Buchan is on the left, not the right
(though there is an unsignposted turnoff on the right about 2km further
along. Take the left turn real easy especially if the road is wet, it's a
270° left hander which immediately passes back under the Princes Hwy. There
are a few turns to make in the first few km and they're not always in the
logical direction so at each intersection slow down and read the signposts
    and
    follow the Buchan signs.

    thx for that tip
If your plan is to follow the freeway into Melbourne and out the other side
    to
Geelong You might find it more entertaining to avoid Melbourne all together,
head south to Sorrento and catch the ferry across to Queenscliff instead and
head to the GOR via Barwon Heads.

How often does the ferry cross ?

The ride through Melb is piss poor and the ferry detour sounds a good idea

    thx Nev

  10. When I picked mine up, with 5600 km on it, it still had the original
rubber on it. 2000 km later, the rear was well and truly shagged (on the
sides, not so much the centre) and the front was looking a bit tired.
Just replaced both with Shinko tyres for $229 all up. They're the same
construction (same factory actually) as the continentals. Stickier than
the BT012SS, but probably won't last quite as long - but at half price
    it is hopefully worth it.

Question: how come you're getting rid of your FJR?

    ....snip

Pardon me for being a pedant, but I'm having trouble imagining a 270°
left hander. Isn't that going to be the same as a 90° right hander ?

    David :p

Yep. The road loops back under the highway.

The entrance from Sth Gippy Hwy to the Monash is more like a 300° left
    hander.

The nett result is much the same but you don't wear out the right hand side of
    your tyre.

Nope. If you took a 90° right hander there, you'd pin the armco
and then fall several meters onto the road below.

Better to follow road around to the left and under the highway, I
    think ...

  20. The Cahill Expressway weat/northbound onto the harbour bridge in
    Sydney...

There's usually some elevation change involved...
