I get that out of a front and half that out of a rear. So I would need to
start with new tyres and buy one rear on the trip. Of course, if I had one
of those 'sports' bikes I'd have to carry a few tyres with me. Shame that,
cause, as Hammo keeps pointing out, on a 'sports' bike you can't carry
    stuff, so you're stuffed.

Having been guided around Brisvegas by one of you, and around Perth by
the other, I am not in the least suprised that your experiences with
    tyre wear are divergent.

  4. FARK!

On the K I used to get about 10,000 out of a front, and maybe 7,000 out
of a rear. Will be interesting to see what I get out of the FJR - but I
don't expect it'll be more than that.

Nah, the Le Mans V11 has a shitty fuel range... about 200kms to dead empty.

  8. Wot? It doesn't do Dale's 250 to reserve minimum....?
A big tourer bike mark there...
    Air cooled (snigger)
Its a beemer, it can carry a small village on its back.
    Heavier than others, therefore tourer
Definitely not a sports bike, so must be a tourer.
    Your shout.

If it doesn't fit in a tank bag, you don't need it.

    Pick answer from the following;

    1. No, I wear them. Every day I turn them 120º. After three days I turn them
    inside out. Repeat...

    2. What jocks?...

    3. I keep everything in sealed Glad storage bags and clean and dirty have
their own bags distinct from each other.

Need and want are two very different things... I can (and have) toured
with a micro hiking sleeping bag and a micro hiking 1 man tent and a
    credit card.

But I'd much rather have a 3 man tent, an air bed, an air bed pump, a
pda/mp3 player and something to make coffee with.

If you're talking about staying in hotels, well that works... but I
prefer camping when I'm touring on the bike... [1]

[1] If I'm just droning from another state to home with the intention of
getting there as fast as possible then a cheap motel makes better sense.

(hoping that 3 is the correct answer!)

If it is 3... lets say you go away for a week... that's 7 pairs of jocks
and 7 pairs of socks and 7 singlets and 7 t-shirts.

That wouldn't fit in my tank bag... how big is your tank bag? Is it one
of those monster triple deck things?

Or don't you do longer trips?

I think BTH has 22,000km or something, but it's possible he got lost.

Really, as mentioned elsewhere, the side trips are the good bits.
