  3. No, mate. It's no joke to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere,
thousands of miles from a tyre dealer, with no tyres. No joke at all.

It _was_ beautiful one trip I did back in the mid 1980's as the nullabor
had just had significant rain and all the wildflowers were out and it
    was green...

Every other trip it's been brown and light brown and dark brown and red
brown... and and and... not beautiful... just stark.

A serious question for you..............if with new tryes will I make it
around Oz without the need for replacments ? Or would it be best to leave
my current ones ( they look ok ) on and get them changed at Perth ?

Best thing to do is see what they are like when you get to Perth.
They would possibly be fairly squared off by then since its fairly
    straight all the way.

Your tyre wear rate will most likely be higher due to higher sustained
speeds and straight roads, so if they have enough tread to last safely to
Perth then get them changed then. It is my habit to change tyres early as it
is much cheaper than having a flat or blowouts on the road.

  14. Oh course
    Large touring fuel range
    Shaft drive
Large suspension travel compared to sports bikes
    Underpowered for its displacement
Not utilising the latest technological advances
    Large luggage carrying capacity
Heavier than it needs to be
    Limited top speed
    That's OK.

  15. Depends on what tyres, what bike, how you ride it, how you load it and the
temperature. Get to Perth and look, if you dont think you'll make Darwin,
either ring ahead to a bike shop at Geraldton, Broome or wherever to order
some or change them before you leave Perth.. We took all that trouble to
have a 170/60-17 Macadam 100 waiting for us in Broome (three phone calls in
all) and when we arrived they said "sorry we don't deal with Michelin, so we
couldn't get your tyre", they couldn't tell me that before?! Could have
strangled the idiot on the spot. Anyway 170/60 is a popular size, shouldn't
be a problem we thought, nuh, not one to be had anywhere in Broome, had to
settle for a 160/70 (narrower, higher, horrible). If you're going to do it,
ring ahead, be sure, confirm it's there. Marie put that on in Broome and
then another in Bendigo as it had knocked the centre out of the high tyre
real quick (Pirelli Dragon GTS, their touring tyre). The sidecar took one
Volvo tyre for the rear in Alice Springs.

  17. He is? I thought. He'd take a while and argue lots first.

It describes the Le Mans spot on as well!

Travelling between Perth and Melbourne, I always check my tyres very
carefully before I leave Perth, or Adelaide on the way West. I have bought
four rears in Adelaide and I don't even live there.

Sounds good to me. Some of them have working igniters too.
