Ok, who has crossed ( car or bike ) ? How long from Ceduna to Norseman did
it take ? I don't want to even try doing it in one day
so there any decent accommodation ? I guess Eucla or Madura look like
stopping points ? Any suggestions or ideas other the suicide will be
    gratefully accepted.

I've pinched my boyfriend's keyboard to reply to this one.

I did the Nullarbor in 2 days ... going west to east ... by bike.

Day 1 was Norseman to Eucla (but it's only another 12 kms to Border Town and
the Motel is better there). From memory we did about 728 kms in 1 day to
Eucla, and then the next day did Eucla to Streaky Bay in SA's Eyre
    Peninsula.

If you want more details, let me know and I'll dig out my notes (I've been
too lazy to type them up). Best time of year (investigated thoroughly by
the guy that organised my trip) is end March early April. We did the last
week in March and the first week in April from Perth, down around the coast,
up via Norseman to Kalgoorlie where we spent the day in a mine, back to
Norseman, across the Nullarbor (1 day WA, 1 day SA), then across the Eyre
Peninsula, via Mount Gambier down to Portland Vic, then up the Great Ocean
Road, across on the ferry to the Mornington Peninsula, then back up the
coast to Bega, across to Cooma, then the group took the freeway home while I
went across the Snowy Mountains down to Wagga then back via Wakefield Park -
freeway with DDs as it was Easter.

    That's all from me!

    Thanks Sarah

Well I intend leaving Wollongong middle of April and down the Princess to
Melb then onto the Great Ocean Road and Adleaide.
    ( then its perth-darwin-mt isa-brissie-sydney-home ).

Border Town with the better motel seems good to me . It will be a relatively
short trip from Ceduna but it will give me time to check out the Bight .

    thanks again

Done it twice over the past couple of years.

Balladonia is a better place to stay & they tend to have a heap of traffic
( no noise though ) - Tis about 1000km to Perth or 500km to Kalgoorlie from
    there.
Norseman is a hole where not alot happens cept passing traffic.

Do NOT travel between Balladonia & Madura at night.. The amount of Roo's
there will frighten the life out of anyone. Beleive me.

There are many places to stay on the way - always fuel stops every 200km or
    so so it's easy travelling.

    how we travelled :-
    03
Syd - Mildura, Mildura - Nullabor Roadhouse, Nullabor Roadhouse -
    Coolgardie, Coolgardie - Perth.
Perth - Border Village (BIG day), Border Village - Adelaide
    04
Syd - Mildura, Mildura - Adelaide, Adelaide - Nullabor Roadhouse, Nullabor
Roadhouse - Coolgardie, Coolgardie - Perth.
Perth - Balladonia, Balladonia - Ceduna, Ceduna - Adelaide, Adelaide -
    Mildura, Mildura - Sydney.

Meals were basically where we got fuel - not too long between stops on a
    200l tank.

BTW - It gets very very windy.

Done it 9 times now (8 by bike), great fun!

Standard warning don't stop at Yalata if you can avoid doing so, and if you
do, keep an eye on your bike ALL the time.... decent accommodation? I'd stop
at Ceduna, and try and make Balladonia/Norseman your next stop..

O and the camel sign? Pay attention to it, it's scary when you come round
and find a goddamn camel! (was outside of Norseman)

Drive it last year by myself last late august/early sept. its 2 days,
unless you have someone to share the driving/riding. Also worth taking 2
days so u can stop along the way to see the sites. not sure if its the
right time of the year, but when i went i stopped at the head of the
bite to see the whales. that was awesome as they were no more than 50
    metres from the coast.

i stopped in eucla (heading west to east). people were friendly, but the
motel did suck (ie bugger all heating). As someone else suggested,
Border town cant be any worse.

Not sure if this is a piss take question or not, but ill answer anyway.

pretty sure no bike tyres there. I believe esperence to the south will
have limited selection and your best bet is kalgoorlie to the north.

    2003 - http://lamp.infosys.deakin.edu.au/acis03/

Premium was available then except for one place on the crossing, Penong,
I think. Stayed at Cocklebiddie, Eucla, Ceduna, Streaky Bay. I'd
definitely stay at Streaky Bay again, then cut accross to Poochera.

    Cheers

I wouldn't stay at either. Mostly I travel by myself and camp. Norseman to
Nullarbor is OK for a day. Nullarbor to Pt Augusta is good too. I'm happy to
stay in all of those places. When I'm alone I find $85 for a bed at
Nullarbor a bit steep for my budget.

Darwin has two bike shops Phelps Fullwood (Darwin Motorcycle Center )
    and the Honda dealer.
If I remember correctly Fullwoods has the BMW dealership along with a
    few other dealerships .
If you plan to stop in Katherine e-mail me for my phone number maybe we
can have a beer or three.
There is a bike shop in Katherine as well .
(just remove the no spam from my e-mail addy)

They must have made it longer since I drove across there :p 1 day each way
in the car by myself. Penong to Norseman on the way over and Norseman to Port
August on the way back. If you're interested in an Iron Butt qualification
ride Norseman to Port Augusta in < 24 hours will do it.
