I think the reason for Ducati wanting to increase capacity to 1200cc is
to reduce cost for them, in the current form to get the performance
from the 999 twin the engine tune is so high they need to rebuild often
at great cost, the 1200cc option means they sacrifice the amount of
tuning they can perform (by the rules) but gain it back with the extra
200cc, thus reducing the freq of rebuilds. That's the theory anyway,
how it will pan out in real life remains to be seen, but certainly they
can hardly complain that they are disadvantaged by the current rules as
long as they are prepared to shell out to get the results.

Of course they want to race cheaper, who wouldn't? The interesting part of
all the "level field" argument is whether Flamini will allow it even though
it's fairly obvious they don't need it to win, much less just be
competitive, but given his previous deals with Pirelli, well, you get my
drift. The bottom line may be that Bayliss needs to back off just a tad and
sorta "take one for the good of Corse," but with him so close to the sunset
(of his career) I don't see that happening, at least not willfully...
