Now it's considered to be high

When a diet is high in sugar and starches (both of which break down and
produce glucose), the resulting increase in blood glucose levels triggers
the pancreas to produce more insulin. Insulin helps turn excess glucose into
body fat and cholesterol. Because of this sugar-insulin-fat connection,
long-term consumption of sugars and starches promote high cholesterol
levels, obesity, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and other risk
    factors associated with heart disease.

I'd expect that to be because they don't live long enough. The fact is that
you have to die of something, and that's why there are pretty high %ages of
death from cancer and heart disease, because so much other stuff that would
previously have killed is curable. Most animals die of starvation before
they get to the point of getting proper illnesses - for exactly the same
reasons as 40 year olds can't beat 20 year olds at football.

Your MC doesn't have "the MC heart problem" does it?

Err, what would that be then?! She's two, and we've only had her a year.
    She's insured though luckily!

    Cardiomyothapy.
Seems it's a common thing with the breed.
Our chap has it, luckily he is insured too.

Ah, just got the wife to look it up. She's an ex. Veterinary nurse of 15
years, and she hadn't heard of it being an exclusively MC thing. Apparently
the symptoms can present from about 4 years old on. We'll keep an eye on
her, but it's not worth the hassle of testing for it. After all, you can't
really prevent it, only treat the syptoms if they present themselves.

  19. I imagine it's not overly wonderful if you are diabetic as Mr Hog stated
he is two posts previously in this thread. I took that as the context
for his subsequent comments but hey I'm probably being whoosed yet
    again.

Probably not, I'm not reading thoroughly having been away for a few
days. My perspective is fruit for breakfast is fine and dandy.
