She's probably raised some valid points, but my issue is that nowhere
in the article (and this may be a fault of the beeb) does she make any
    claim that she _is_ cupable.

I wonder if the same can be applied to the dolts who think that it's
safe to put your feet up on the front passenger side? Particularly in
the summer you see these idiots with their feet up by the windscreen. If
the airbag should detonate it's going to be messy.

Ahh, fair enough. I read the text[1], not the page, which clearly states
    'must'

[1]If under 1.35m [1][2] in height then the kid should be in a child
    seat or have
    a booster cushion.

    [1] 4'5" ish
    [2]Hmm, should one re-number someone else's footnotes?

Yes, but when my kids are in the car, no, I don't look at things like
mobile phones to help SWMBO text, etc.
No, never. That's what the mirror is for. I even explain to the kids
that I'm driving and I can't look around. When I drive with
passengers, I think of the passengers.
No, that's what SWMBO is for.
    They're very pre-teens. I don't have that problem. Again, that's what
    SWMBO is for.
I've got a GPS which has a mini guide on the dashboard, so my
attention isn't drawn away from the road.
Hang on. A momentary glance? If a momentary glance caused her to lose
control, she should be on the road.

Friend of mine had an accident where the driver air bag went off and
lead to him punching himself in the face - it broke two teeth and
    mangled his little finger.

Mind you, that was the least of his worries since he also smashed up his
    femur.

Stop shagging her whilst she's trying to drive.

She leaned over to the passenger side of the car to help her daughter send a
text message whilst in charge of a moving car.

That's a bit more than just glancing at the phone.

I'd say that was more akin to leaning over to pick something up off the floor
of the passenger footwell whilst driving along, rather silly.

    Hah, nice one.

It'd teach them not to put their feet on the dash.

After the airbag went off they could put their feet on the back seat. And
    legs.

I've always said single women drivers (1) with young kids in the car are a
menace. I watch out for them. I encountered one yesterday, veering from
side to side as she leaned back to administer to some sprog in a rear baby
seat, on a dual carriageway, slowing in the process from 60ish to 30ish.

    (1) callus men just fucking ignore them ;o)

I forgot to mention that kids don't misbehave so much when out with their
dads anyway. And we know why, don't we ;o)

This is how I see it as well.

I'm not sure if the beeb article was trying to highlight the potential
danger to kids when airbags go off or the mothers lapse of
concentration but I suspect it was the former. No doubt they'll report
again if any police action is taken against the woman.

There was a huge amount of publicity maybe 3 years ago when they made
booster seats mandatory for under 12's and I've seen plenty of reminder
    since. That's front and rear.

I put Rob in the front seat but it goes right back on the rails and get
    reclined some.

I wonder what the situation is with side airbags.
