The mum got off lightly

However, the only warning you'll see in a vehicle mentions baby
carriers, not the limitations of seating position and size of the
passenger. I reckon a landshark would have a crack at this as a case.

Well if you can end up in the Pokey for *only* driving at 150mph then....

Try reading the manual. It's pretty clear in ours.

    Ah, that's it, is it?
'cos she's an absolute fuckwit. If she hadn't been a complete and utter
fucking idiot, her daughter would be alive. Whilst I agree that she's lost
her own daughter, should that be an excuse to let her off? What would the
score be, should the child have been that of a friend? Same outcome?

If it goes to trial, and she's convicted, the fact that her daughter
died in the incident will be taken as a very strong mitigating factor
    when sentencing.

I understand that. I'm not talking about the sentencing side of things.
But I believe she should be brought up in front of the courts to make
her understand that what she did was wrong. I don't get that impression
from the news article. She seems to be trying to blame everything else
    apart from her own ****-wittery.

Your comprehension of English is lacking or has deteriorated.

She doesn't seem to be making any claim that she was not culpable. She
seems to be raising a valid point that drivers/parents are unaware of the
dangers of airbags to shorter children. As I posted elsewhere, the
government has published a law to say kids under 1.35m should be on a
booster cushion or child seat. Disseminating this information to the great
unwashed doesn't seem like a bad idea to me.

Have you never taken your eyes off the road? Looked round when one of
your kids is in the back? Passed them a drink or snack? Tried to break
up a pre-teen squabble while driving? Looked at a map?

She's lost her kid for a momentary glance at the phone - note, she
wasn't using it. She's got to live with that.

If the medical evidence showed no chance of recovery and I believed my
child (even as an adult) was in pain and I had access to morphine, I'd
do the same. The problem with this case is it seems the doctors had
one view and the mother another.

  16. Here in Australia every airbag warning I have seen says no kids under 12 in the
    front seat.

Erm, that was Highway Code. Not a law. Other than that I agree.

No, it's a law, referenced by the HC as follows:
    "
    100
The driver MUST ensure that all children under 14 years of age in
cars, vans and other goods vehicles wear seat belts or sit in an
approved child restraint where required (see table above). If a child
is under 1.35 metres (approx 4 feet 5 inches) tall, a baby seat, child
seat, booster seat or booster cushion MUST be used suitable for the
child’s weight and fitted to the manufacturer’s instructions.

    [Laws RTA 1988 sects 14 & 15, MV(WSB)R, MV(WSBCFS)R & MV(WSB)(A)R]
