Good point. There were mitigating circumstances.

Looking at it, I think I was missing a 'then' as in 'and then I could'.
Hey, who cares it's only English...

Not really, as you could make it longer if you would want to by
    just adding more nouns.
Similar to the standard phrases used, IIRC.

Surely that falls under the condition (mentioned by me elsewhere) of
    "being a bloke"?

Really? I always thought that was n exclusively female trait. Explains
a lot about you, I guess...

My wife used to 'do' statemented children before the school system and
fucking *awful* children/parents did for her will to serve society.

Fifth question down. Says you can install Office 2002 on a desktop and
    laptop (retail version, not OEM).

That makes sense, as games become more and more creative: more like works
    of fiction.

My original point would still apply (mostly[1]) to normal software: tools
    which do something more-or-less useful.

[1] I guess that someone who liked Word might be more inclined to go for
Excel. And with some software there are issues of interoperability: maybe
you don't care all that much for Excel, but you go for it anyway because
    it plays nicely with Word.

    That's a fucking awful generalisation.

The tighter you squeeze the faster the sand slips between your fingers. Or
    somesuch.

Linux. By default, software will be free in the future, there will be some
stuff which requires loads of money for specialised or customised features
but good enough and free wins for the rest.

    Linux
    Gnome
    GIMP
    Dia
    Xmms
    Open Office
    GnuCash
    Mozilla
    PostgreSQL
    Apache
    Sendmail
    Blender

    Etc etc etc.

    True, and more than unfair.

I think the main reason she left was a 'them and us attitude' and a
    perception of no backup.

It doesn't. It cements their position. Making *every* bastard pay for the
pirated copy of Windows and Office on their PC is the quickest way to
change Microsoft's dominance. Ironically MS's new licensing schemes will do
    this faster than anything else.

And how will the people who write new linux software pay for food, or
their mortgage, if all their work is done for free?

That's like saying only motorcycle couriers should ride bikes coz they're
payed for it. How are people going to eat when they ride bikes for fun and
enjoyment? Ohmygod the whole world is going to collapse...

No it's not. It's like saying free taxis wouldn't work, despite them
being a great benefit for (almost) everyone.

And who's going to support it for free when it goes tits up and it *has* to
be fixed. Have you ever heard of 'mission critical' software?

That's almost as stupid as saying that only selling software makes any
money, and there is nothing in putting together or maintaining a Linux
    distro.

I'm never going to talk any sense to you, as you're a self opinionated
Microsoft sheep, and I'm 'one of those people'.
