I just found a fella selling a full, unused, Terry Shepherd 500cc conversion
kit, jolly moto spannies, rebuilt/balanced crank, an ohlins rear shock and a
load of other shiny bits for the NS... Now givn Kate wasn't too impressed
at the £870 I spent on the bike, how impressd does anyone reckon she'll be
when I spend about £1500 on that lot?

And does anyone have any recommendations for engineering firms who can
provide a top-notch service at a reasonable price who'll be able to help me
get ohlins road/track forks in the front end and a single-sider in the rear
of the frame? I was thinking of NC35 forks and rear end and "just" havin
them modded to fit -anyone reckon that it's be more sensible to do that?

    Ta.

PS. I *know* the sensible option is to buy a more modern bike, but I just
want to do this. I've spent 20 years wanting t get an NS sorted into the
bike I think it should be and this time it's going to happen, OK? Either
that or I'll **** it up and sell it to Muck for a ton/Lozzo for a donation
    to charity....

I'll be waiting with a van, I'll pick Timo's RD400 up at the same time.

Not very, but do it, you know you want to. Oh and CIHAGM...
I still want an RD500 with modern wheels and suspension.

WavyDavy lives a spit away from Spondon, so I'm sure he could pop his
head round the door at some point.

She doesn't *need* to know but she would notice, yes... :(
AFAIK they are still trading and, as Lozzo says, they ar just round the
corner from me (literally) so I shall contact them forthwith.

I was just wondering if anyone had done anything remotely similar before and
could recommend a firm who might not charge such a premium as Spondon/Harris
to do this and would actually want to do it rather than fit it in around
their main money earners in the run-up to the racing season....
    Ta muchly for the offer(s)
If all goes to plan it'll be done and ready to play with by the EOSM
    2005....

In fact, if I pull my finger out and get trawling for forks, wheels etc it
may be a reasonable state by the BOSM.

You're in luck with regard the front end. According to my books the
NS400R and the NC35 share the same steering head bearings, so
theoretically you should be able to drop the yokes straight into your
frame and the forks etc will just pop straight in. Knowing Honda the
steering stem length will be the same, so no problem there. If not, then
getting a new steering stem made, or even having it removed from the NS
bottom yoke and fitted to the NC35 yoke isn't too much bother. You can
measure the height of an NC35 headstock to check this out beforehand.
there are plenty of them around.

Can't help you with the single sided arm though. I've seen a VFR400R one
fitted to a shitty old TDM850 once upon a time, so getting one into a NS
    frame shouldn't be difficult.
