it, and you're rolling it in your hand gently to and from the tightest
spot and you roll it too far...

....and a sprocket tooth punches through your thumbnail.

Heh. My own most similar is slowly winding a wood screw ( with a
cordless) into my the forefinger; hidden behind two thin bits of ply I
was holding........

Bodies are amazingly tolerant things. I suppose they have to be
considering how much pain and suffering some of your brains put them

Mate of mine did that - he can only count up to 9 1/2 now . . .

 

Off you go to the doctor to have the nail removed before the nail bed
gets fucked up. This will prevent a great deal of future pain.
A new nail will grow out in about 8 weeks.

Luckily it was towrds the end of the nail rather than plumb cetnre.
Offending bit of nail removed already.

Innhe, though? I did that, for the first and bloody last time, with a
pushbike, aged 12 or so. Reactions were slow in face of pain, then: I
let it go right round the front sprocket before release.

 

Remember that link posted a couple of years ago of the bloke that put his
bike in 1st gear to clean the chain, bloody mangled fingers with lots of
bits missing.
