  2. Yeah. Type approval.
    As it's a European car to start with, it shouldn't be much of a
    problem, but check it out.
    There are some new rules out, but I cant remember to what they apply.

    A shortage of corrosion-free SO SAABs at a reasonable price IME .
    Although I'd be happy to hear different since I like SO SAABs a lot.

    Apparently the hot climate of the southern US causes problems other
    than corrosion.

    And you do know what the climate is like there? Like, hot and *humid*?

    The rust-free cars full of chicken wire and filler are found in the
    Southwest, *not* the Southeast. In the Southeast, they tend to be full
    of chicken wire, filler and rust...

    Ah, there's a catch in every good plan!

    I'm still waiting for answers to my questions, so we'll see how the
    response is. I was thinking more along the "no salt on the roads" lines
    rather than hot and sticky climate.

    I only bought it to do one little job but it's strangely addictive.

    I expect to have a 20ft container to fill on the way home so I can see
    some serious tool shopping happening in the post-Xmas sales.

    Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, John Higgins
    240V vs 110V is a slight problem, you need a transformer.

    50Hz vs 60Hz is a bigger problem. Tools will run slower, and (IIRC)
    hotter.

  18. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
    drugs began to take hold. I remember "Higgins@work"
    Use a site transformer. It'll run ok, being a universal motor, but will
    be a little bit slower than it should.

    I'll actually need a bunch of transformers for all the leccy stuff
    we've picked up over the last couple of years. Obviously not the
    smaller crap but stuff like the AV amp and so on.

    I don't have much in the way of rotating machinery...yet, but it's all
    very attractive despite my complete lack of need for most of it. :)

    I've tried to buy with a view to compatibility with the UK but it's not
    always been possible. I picked up a nice Harman Kardon AV amp for not
    very much money so that will need a reasonably hefty transformer. I'm
    in two minds about the Polk sub-woofer. I don't know whether to sell
    that or run it off of a transformer. Everything else is either a small
    load or not very important.
