this clip made -me- sick, and I've seen some things in me time.
I didn't support the war in the first place, but I now sincerely hope
that the troops get these fuckheads and kill them as painfully as
possible.

I take it that you feel this way about the troops guilty of the torture
and murder of Iraqis as well? or would you need to see a video of that
first?

The following is an extract from my forthcoming book, "The life and

There's a theory going around that the beheading video is fake. I
can't comment because I'm far too squeamish to watch the video.

Nevertheless, if it's not a fake the question arises: would it have
happened if the USA and UK hadn't conducted an illegal invasion of a
country that presented no threat to them, and then gone on to do
nothing for months after concerns were expressed by the Red Cross
about the brutal treatment of internees who had been convicted of no
crime? Would it have happened if the violent criminal behaviour of
some American troops hadn't been photographed and disseminated in a
way that would be sure to incite hatred against Americans in general?

Would it have happened if Iraq were not an important producer of oil?

If the beheading video can be used for propaganda in the West, you can
be sure that the torture videos are being used for recruitment among
Islamic fundamentalists. This war, in strategy and in details, is a
gift to Osama bin Laden.

Whatever happens next, this has been a shameful month for the USA, the
UK, and possibly a few unnamed individual Iraqis. It's the shame
attached to *my* country that upsets me most, but it's a fucking mess
all round, really.

I am as far removed from "nervous disposition" as it gets but you won't
catch me watching it.

I don't need imagery to know war has no rules and no ethics.

It's no worse than anything you've seen in the typical R-rated
action/slasher movie. Plus, the shots of the actual beheading are a bit
poor (at least on my machine) because the light was bad.

It might help if you keep the sound off during the last minute or so,
which is where Berg gets his head hacked off with a big knife and does a
lot of screaming.

 

Oh, nobody bothers with that old thing anymore.

There are theories because of the time stamp changing as he gets beheaded,
but there is no doubt that Nick Berg is dead anyway. I would not recommend
watching the video in any case. It's disgusting.

And yet we were told by the British government that it would reduce
terrorism, despite reports from various Select Committees, and the common
sense judgement of most people, that that would clearly not be the case.

This is an excellent post, full of truthfulness and wisdom.
