I know this is a bit OT, but, I was really glad to see that they are
building a bloody great wall in Sydney for the "fun shirt competition".

I mean, we need something to stop Bush and his goons, plus all the other
heid bummers, and their armed minders from mixing with the important
    people...i.e. us.

Wonder if they'll put "Don't feed the animals" signs on it?

    regards,

I was a bit stunned when I saw the scale of it in the news. Are our esteemed
    leaders really that paranoid?
Nah "Don't encourage the Ferals" more likely.

Will this great wall be visible from space?

I read in the paper the other day that there was a big conference of
army chiefs from various nations (especially those who fear the
terrorist under our beds the most) in Sydney last week and they decided
that in order to maintain a high level of safety and security they
should just keep it a secret and not tell anyone until later. Wonder
why then, they do the exact opposite for the APEC, and make themselves a
target. They could even do their bit to keep interest rates down by not
spending the $70M they have budgeted for additional security.

'ppears to me Nev the "high security, well advertised events" are the ones the baddies, crooks,
roughnecks and nogoodnics avoid like the plague. Mr & Mrs Joe Average (or Jose Averagardo) going to
work on the train seem to be the preferred target?

  6. Yeah - I was in Sydderknee that day and was walking up Oxford St and 6
cop bikes and two cars came around that street that goes past Kinselas
and into Oxford. It was quite weird as the lead cop bike did the "stop
in intersection and hold up traffic then tag on the back" and this
continued into Liverpool St but there didn't seem to be anyone they
were leading. I assumed it was a training thing but now have to assume
there was some almighty fuckwit in one of the cop cars.

Is that the "gay" Oxford Street ?

Anyway I am glad we are having this APEC meeting in Sydney. Anything to
showcase what a great democratic society we have down here . And that extra
public holiday we get has nothing to do with it :)

**** me; you get a public holiday for APEC day?!!?
Sort of a "may as well ALL be useless then" acknowledgement?
That'd almost make being blockaded worthwhile!

  10. Yeah, that is the "gay" Oxford St. Jen booked our hotel just off it
(Marriott in College St) and we were wandering up there looking for
somewhere to grab lunch. She was pooh-poohing a few pubs and I said
"well, this IS Oxford St". Anyway, I figured Kinselas was probably
going to suit her taste so headed there. She went looking for a music
rag to figure what we were going to do the night after the Cure gig
and came back with what looked like a music street press. But, of
course, it was a gay mag. I said, "You do realise where we are don't
you?". So I explained. Jen: "Is that why the barman at our hotel was
    trying to pick you up?"

    Aah, innocence. I vaguely remember it . . .

    I'd like to see that.

I'd also love to see TV pictures of the area outside of the fence
totally empty...not a soul in sight.
