The giddy thrill of Acquisition

Well anyway, Minx and I have been feeling the need for speed lately and
a 1967 CT90 struggles to deliver that (although 75kph on a bumpy road
    feels BLOODY fast!).

We've decided to get two "new" bikes, and settled on an $18,000 budget.
I've already got mine lined up for collection when we return to
Canberra (well, actually I'm getting two) which will leave about
$15,000 in the kitty. Any recommendations?

The first person to guess the make and model of my new bikes gets free
admission to next year's Unaugural. To make it easier, they're
identical and there's a cryptic clue hidden in this posting. ;-)

  6. Well they can't be GPX250's, you didn't leave two whole ones in the
country after your last little "giddy thrill of acquisition" did you?

(Even with current fuel prices, I don't think you'd get a _pair_ of F14s
for 3k... Maybe in Can'tberra tho...)

Need more info on what Minx wants in a bike really. 15K will buy you
something very nice second hand or something pretty decent new.

    Sports, tourer, naked, dirt ?

Maybe she needs whatever car it was(1) that Kelly McGillis drove ? :)

    JL
    (1) Mustang ? Couldn't find it on a quick google.

Apparently there's whole squadrons of them roasting(1) in the Mojave
    desert

    JL
    (1) I'd have said rusting except that would require moisture(2)
    (2) and I guess aluminium doesn't rust, only corrode (just getting in
    before Hammo)

Well, we don't have to spend ALL of it. She wants a 600 sports bike.
I've suggested a pre-ZX6-styled ZZR600, and she seems to like the look
of them. Some people have already suggested that they're unlikely to
have been thrashed too hard, since they were relegated to sport-tourer
status not so long after they were introduced.

Plenty of time yet for shopping, she might even decide to go for a
    Triumph TT600 or something.

You'll be wanting Vickers' Hornet then!
When will I expect you to pick it up?

I'll even buy a 6 pack of that blu loo stuff for you to drink.

Hatz has a wind-up 1/12 Ducati. Comes with some slight damage after he
sat on it in front of his mirror.

The problem is that I don't have much of a clue, I'm going to tour the
bike shops tomorrow. Currently I'm attracted to any bike that doesn't
threaten to break a cable and leave me stranded in Godforsake. It
would probably have been better to do some basic scoping-out re what's
in the world of bikes over $1200, before waving the flag for help (and
as it's not smart to buy a bike just before an interstate move, it's
probably going to be a few months anyway). I wasn't expecting the $15K
budget, I'm more comfortable spending up to $10K and saving the rest
for hats and ribbons. BT just showed me the Hyosung site and their
650R looks interesting ($9K). What's the goss on Hyosung?
    heh

  17. Motor and essential bits Suzuki design. Very high build quality; at
least equal to most Japanese. Dunno about after sale and servicing, but
many others aren't too good there either.

The Hyosung looks like very good value for a new bike!
I can also vouch for Jules's TT600 if you'd rather have more speed and less
    cost. (And British "quality")
