well, when *I* do it, I get dozens of groups - uk.rec.motorcycles is
up to 4th position now, due to this very thread.
misc.writing.screenplays is first, followed by rec.food.cooking.

Do you really not see those groups when doing a general search for
    "font of all knowledge"???

I think he means that ukrm is the only group listed in the
related groups section at the top, i.e. before the list of
    relevant threads.

BTW ukrm has overtaken rfc and is now 2nd.)

  6. YTC. Font = where people are baptised, ie at the start of their life
(often) not the end (where these guys are about to be)

It all depends how you do it...

If you put "font of all knowledge" in google and do a group search, UKRM
comes out on top. If you put in a Google Groups > advanced search its
    second.

    **** Google, eh?

  8. Ah, but how many of them are American? Going by the
dictionary definitions, the septics appear to favour "font"
whereas the English favour "fount", although there is a
    bit of crossover.

  9. No it's not just you - I agree.

The Oxford School Dictionary of Word Origins gives the
origin of both words as being the latin fons, meaning
"a spring or fountain", so both are correct. My (very
limited) research on the web indicates that "fount of all
knowledge" is the version the Brits tend to use, and
"font of all knowledge" is how the septics like it.

    But what do I know?

  14. I had a church fount offered to me with some church pews. I had two of
the pews to put around my old BBQ but couldn't collect the fount as it
weighed in at over a tonne.
