'Thanks to' the Internet, interfering old busybodies who previously
would have had their reactionary crap limited to shouting at their
television, or throwing their flat cap at the paper when it had a photo
of Thatcher on the front .. now get to export their 'wisdom' to hundreds
of millions of unsuspecting (but equally thick and gullible) citizens
    worldwide.

    Isn't progress great ?

  7. Aside completely from the fact, assuming not to many duplicates or false
entries; a number rapidly approaching half a million is a tad more than
a few interfering old busybodies, who gives a flying **** what you think
Froggie? These are our fucking games and we shall remain free to
criticise all and any aspects of them we don't like and you and your
jealous fellow countrymen can stuff it up your heavily EEC subsidised
    garlic ridden arses.

It's going to take a while (if ever) to reach half a million.
    42000-ish at the moment.

Well quite, but then the average 'citizen' is as thick as shit anyway,
and many of them would sign 'petitions' that would probably go against
their best interests (not that i) this is the case here, and ii) I give
    a shit).

  10. I don't see the logic of your point, why is it not in their best
    interests?

I can't see how this one would go against anyone's interests, but I was
speaking conditionally. Hypothetically, if you like.

A good example, though, is the 'fortune tax' that rich people's estates
have to give up to the French treasury. Apparently, ~60% of French
people are in favour of its abolition ... even though only 10% of them
have the income and/or assets to be subject to it.

  12. Ah I see.

You know, trying to confuse the previously befuddled is not an act of
overt gallantry. I can see why being French appeals to you.

Yebbut I don't see how signing a petition against That Logo does folks
disservice. Assuming for a moment that it is utter crap and we are not
just a bunch of mindless plebs who don't appreciate "art" how can
objecting to both it and the cost of it be a bad thing?

Let me try again. I didn't say it would be a bad thing. I said that
most people are so thick, that they'd sign anything anyway, irrespective
of whether or not the 'petition' (i.e. _any_ petition) served their best
    interests or not.

  14. Am I giving you a hard time.
You miss the point though. For a start this is not most people but
either 1 whole or 1 tenth of 1 per cent of the adult population of these
here Septic Isles depending on whose punctuation you believe and for
some of us the 2012 Olympics are a very important event.

I am prepared to accept that those who feel there is no place for
nations seeking to compete in bullet free tests of superiority will just
dismiss the whole affair as absolute bollox and see the logo thing as
evidence of their correct point of view but those who think differently
(and note the distinction between thinking and feeling) do and it is
probably them who are doing the complaining and as one of them I rather
resent your assertion that A) I would sign anything and b) that it does
not serve my best interests to do so.

Now, either put up or shut up.

How does it not serve my best interests?

They've closed the objection petition after 48000 votes, the site must
    have been going into meltdown.

    http://www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/change-the-london-2012-logo.html

Meanwhile the support petition (which they've curiously left open for
votes) as of last night had 70 votes, and now stands at 200 ish

FWIW, I think it's shit too. All it suggests to me is Lisa Simpson
    fellating.
