My "30-bobber" - the yellow off road style B31 has a round chrome jobbie.

I bought that black one mainly 'cos
    1. I needed a mirror
    2. The master cylinder is threaded to take a 10mm stem.

I have a feeling the stem on that black one may be too short - I dare say
I'll find out in the very near future. Come to think of it - I have those
mirrors on my Enfield and they look silly on that, but the Enfield ain't
been built to look nice. . . .the B33 has.

    Get yer silly mirrors here.

    Fair's fair.
If you want it, then £300 it is.
If not, then I dare say eBay will be the way to go - with the reserve at
    £300.

I can see the Drifter going too - and the shiny black B31.

Ah well - that'll still leave me with enough bikes to play with.

  3. I'm sorely tempted. Trouble is, I'm off abroad for two weeks from the
    13th.

    S'pose I could bung you a deposit....

Incidentally, what are the forks and front brake off, on your Beezer?
I've only just noticed the disc brake!

    No problem.
I ain't in any rush to sell - it can sit happily in the garage for a few
more weeks, with the obvious "come out to play" moments in between.
I'll ask you again in a month or so - I won't sell it until then.

Triumph T140 front end - Japanese master cylinder and Lockheed calliper.
I've got a shim kit coming during the week - all you can hear from the front
wheel is click, click, click. Drives you mad after a while - or until you
go over 20 mph - whichever comes first.

Did you have to do a 6v to 12v conversion? I'd really like to 12v my
Norton as the 6v lights are next to useless.

As much as I like the Drifter, it just ain't getting used, { having said
that, I've been out on it yesterday and today }and a bike that I don't use
all that frequently might as well be sold. My nice, shiny, smart, black BSA
B31 sits in the garage. I did a grand total of 47 miles on it over the last
twelve months. Once again, that falls into the sell it category - and now
that the B33 is done . . . . why have two of what is virtually the same bike
? The "off road" B31 can stay - it's different and I use it a lot. The MZ
will be going for the same reason - I've acquired some more MZs and once
they are up and running, all but one will have to go. Besides, it's costing
me a fortune in garages and insurance ;-)

Oh, the perils of motorcycle ownership.

The late B33s were alternator, as opposed to dynamo, but still six volt.
Seeing as the bike was being built from the ground up I fitted new twelve
volt rotor, stator and regulator/rectifier. With an altenator British bike,
the change from six to twelve volt is as simple as fitting something like
the "Podtronic" unit - change the bulbs, horn, coil, battery and away you
    go.
http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyelectrex.htm Paul Goff sells all the
bits - that's who I had mine off.

If it's a dynamo model, then you could always have the dynamo rewound - once
again, I would fit a solid state regulator. The "V-reg" is as good as any
( that's what's on mine ). A six volt dynamo will give out twelve volts,
but you can't get something for nothing. It will need to rev at roughly
twice the speed, so low speed riding, in town at night, would not charge the
    battery.

Paul Goff is worth talking to - he knows what's what and I've always found
    him to be fair price-wise.

Well, I'm panicking because I could just see myself buying it and slinging
something like a Charnwood Meteor on the side of it. Except I haven't any
    spare cash at the mo.

I know what you mean about the mirror - there used to be a
'fold-out-of-the-way' mirror which fitted into the handlebar ends. That
    was neat and usable.

The seat looks right to me, but then I was brought up on SOBs.

I would have thought the 1500 to be the better chair tug, shaft drive, twin
    shock, and all that.
There again, the Meteor ain't really a heavy chair.

Whilst building the B33, I had the great idea of buying another bike as a
parts donor. Now seeing as I was going to spend a small fortune on getting
the B33 how I wanted it, the best donor bike to buy was one that had already
got the necessary parts. Ah - here's a B31 for sale - OK, so it's bloody
miles away on the Isle of Anglesey. I went and looked, then ummed and
arred, then went back and bought it. The previous owner had been building
it since 1999, and kept all the receipts for parts bought / fitted. He'd
done a grand job, but seemed to stop when he came to the front end.
Everything else was stainless steel - the front end still had original fork
top nuts / handlebar clamps / etc. There was no charging system, and the
engine had been put together without any gaskets. I have a feeling the
fellow was building it as a show bike - it had been to a few local shows on
a trailer, and carried the reg, number "BSA B31" The bike hadn't even been
registered for the road. I fitted a new 12 volt dynamo - solid state
regulator - new clutch - pulled the engine down and fitted gaskets - got the
bike registered for road use - put some more stainless bits on the front
end - had the tank repainted, seeing as the stuff on it was not petrol proof
and all came off the first time I filled up . . . . . . .and then remembered
that I'd actually bought this bike in order to cannibalise it. Ah well, you
know what it's like. With the thing being shiny, and me not being one for
cleaning bikes, I tended to leave the B31 in the garage if there was any
chance of it raining. It's sad to say, but that bike has only been out in
the rain once in the last few years. I only did 47 miles on it last year.
In fact, the clock was at zero when I had it, and I don't think it's rolled
over to 1000 miles yet - so it ain't even run in. Now that the B33 is all
done and dusted, I need the space, both in the garage and on the insurance
policy. 4 bikes per policy - which means that it's a case of "one in, one
out" - if I get another policy running then I'd be temped to get another
three bikes to fill it, which in turn would lead to more garages - and I
have four now. So that's how it stands at the moment - one black, shiny,
BSA B31, all for the grand sum of £ 2500.
