I'll leave the greasy corporate pole to you, for the time being.

  2. What's this qualified/capable thing?
Well, sooner or later I guess I'll slide down it. Still, almost 20
years climbing it /hovering on it so I can't complain.

Fair point, it didn't hold me back for any of the other jobs I landed.

Still, I've never failed to get a job I actually wanted.

Given that the traditional approach seems to be to downsize and live on
a farm, what are you going to do when it ends?

    ogden, Dec 28, 2010
  4. Umm... live on a farm? Find something to do for the next twenty years,
probably consultancy for a few and then something else. Will stress
about it when it happens. Hopefully won't actually stress too much.

I did think about teacher training but on reflection I don't think
that's the best thing for me or the kids. Plumbing seems a shitty
(literally) job and people I know who've done similar and retrained as
electricians say it's 'ok'; not sure it's for me.

Would like to buy into a bike shop but it's a pipe-dream... and a direct
    line to bankruptcy.

SOBMW fettling shop? You probably have most of the kit needed already and
    learnt many repair skills.

I know 2 chaps who are making a decent living from servicing BMWs well out
of the warranty period. One in Kingston upon Thames and the other in
    Cardiff.

I reckon with the sales of BMW bikes, especially R-GS, over the last decade
this is a market sector that has some scope for expansion. The chap in
Kingston goes to insurance auctions and recycles components: there's going
to be a big demand for repaired final drives for the R1200 range once bikes
cannot be included in extended warranty packages.

  6. Well... I do for the K series. However they're ancient now and
disappearing. I don't know the R series but I guess they'll be similar
    enough.

    Hmm...

  7. Oh good god.

Why did I have to read your senile ramblings?

    Blearghhh.

Best way is to use a cut-throat and take a good swing with your eyes
cut. Aim for the femoral artery.

Finally, we get back on topic. Shaving your pubes can be a useful
tactic when doing long tours. When it rains, I put on a rain suit over
my riding trou, which goes over lightweight street trousers (or long
undies) and underwear. The extra layer of rainsuit in the crotch area
is enough to pinch pubic hairs. Shaving eliminates that problem.
(Yeah, I know, waterproof riding trou would solve that problem, and/or
wearing spandex shorts instead of street trou, but there are other
    issues with those.)

It was the offensive t-shirts that cost me the promotions, not the
    lack of personal grooming.

I don't find them much more convenient, TBH. You need to be a bit
careful when changing a DE blade, I'll grant, but I've managed to not
    cut myself yet.

I can't see how a Gilette Mach3 is any more convenient than a Merkur
with a Gilette blade in it. It does the same job (individual's
    mileage obviously varies).

Only difference is in the status of the blades in carry-on plane
luggage. And in that case it's not that hard to pick up a pack of
    blades wherever you're going.

I was thinking more about convenience when you want to buy a razor (or
new blades) in a hurry and can walk into a lot more places to buy a
cartridge razor than a traditional type one.

Well, if you're going to use a specific *brand* of DE blade (like
Feather) then you're probably right. OTOH I've yet to see a Boots,
Sainsbury's Superdrug etc that doesn't stock at least one DE blade
    (Wilkinson's sword generally IME)
You probably need to bend down to get them, as they seem to put them
much lower on the display. Probably for us old gimmers that use them :)
You can (again) IME by a new handle as well. I would expect my Merkur to
last until approximately the heat death of the universe, though.

Keeping a spare pack of DE blades is much smaller and cheaper than a
spare 5 pack of cartridges as well, but that's hardly a conclusive argument.

  16. A knee fule no the engine vibes transmitted by the tank cause the pubic
area to numb after the first few hundred miles - result, no need to
shave. Boxer riders don't tend to have the problem, admittedly.

Boots, in particular, have their own brand DE razor and blades in
    every store.

Printed A4 jpeg, its superb, Lab quality at the very least.
Using the software included, I opted to print one of my photos
Best part is the colours printed appear to be WYSIWYG from my screen
something I never get when printing direct from CS5, but thats probably due
to a whole load of settings I've not looked into yet.

Tray and general build is a bit flimsy, but can't fault the results. £ 99 is
well worth it IMO, fingers crossed the ink doesn't fade too quickly
