Yup, only 10 minutes late. Were you not getting the increasingly
inebriated updates via Twitter and/or Facebook?

    In communiqué <1ju1xxw.1fc37eq1yt2r9cN%>,
Got to fond room for mine as soon as a thaw sets in.
I got a pair of trekking poles and a book on pub walks for motorists.
Our local hidden gem the Barley Mow is in it.

I have now seen the Twitter updates. I'm touched by the reference in your

Very nice cufflinks from SWMBO, super decanter from parents in law and
some good CD's and a jam funnel from my Dad.

    All good.

    A Kindle (with 3G)[0]. Books, clothes, booze, a pocket screw jig[1], a
rather nice fountain pen and a ****-off great Lego crane that should
keep me quiet for an hour or two tomorrow.

[0] Christ, what a well-designed and capable piece of kit.

    Jam funnel.

It sounds like a euphemism, but not for anything pleasant.

Isn't it just. I got the non 3G model for the OH and she hasn't put it down all
    day.

  10. A week's holiday in Hong Kong where the sun is shining and it's about
20 degrees. And no flight delays on the way out. And a little netbook
which this is being typed on - a nice bit of kit.

That pissed me off slightly as they sell just about everything else into
the mainland. I ended up getting a couple UR'd.

Still wonderful, mind. I just wish I'd bought one for myself.

While you're there, I don't suppose you know the PIN code for the Sky
box I got from you? I recorded something t'other week, Sharpe, ITIW,
that it won't let me see without a PIN. I guess Sky can reset it for
    me if needed.

No idea, I don't think I ever used it.

A quick Google suggests that the default is the last 4 digits of your
    viewing card number.

Anyone would think I was going somewhere cold because I ended up with
even more thermal socks, balaclava, sleeping bag liner and a spare
fuel bottle for the petrol stove.

Add in the obligatory chocolate, DVD and book plus a new wallet and
xmas was pretty good. I've wasted a few hours watching the cricket
and might indulge myself by having a few cheeky beers at the rugby
this afternoon. They're looking for volunteers to go and clear the
pitch so the game can go ahead but that's too much like hard work so
    I'll leave that to others.

nice, I used to have a 3 foot wingspan Camel with a four stroke glo engine,
sounded georgeous and flew gracefully well. Fav still has to be my F-190
    Anton though

The pin isn't tied to your box, but to your sky account. I'm sure
they can reset it for free if you phone them... but they might twig
    you're in foreign.

    On Sun, 26 Dec 2010 09:30:12 +0100, Higgins wibbled:
    <snip praise of the Kindle>.

I've not really understood this Kindle lark. I love the feeling of having a
book in my hand, with pages I can turn. If it's an old book, then the smell is
something else that adds character. Having a Kindle sort of loses all of those i
feelings. I don't think that the words would leap from the pages in the same
    way.

Looking at some of the prices that they advertise for Kindle books, you're
paying a helluva lot for 1's and 0's. What happens in, say, 5 years time when
you lose your Kindle, the batteries give up the ghost or you buy the latest
high tech piece of equipement? You can't use it for the first and last 10-20
mins whilst flying. You can't get a signed copy of a book from your favourite
author. You wouldn't really loan your Kindle to someone, so that they can read
a book you purchased. You wouldn't leave your Kindle on a chair when sitting
in your favourite French café whilst you pop to the karzi.

For those Kindle fans, do you expect your Kindles to be book replacments or
complimenatary to books? What _is_ the attraction? Why not just buy an iPad or
an Android based tablet, where you can not only read books but do a damn site
    more?

Not knocking it at all, but the Kindle isn't my cup of tea.
