He swears it's the right one, and for the dealer's sake I hope it is,
as it was an eighty mile round trip to collect it. This afternoon, I
shall mostly be bollock deep in Harley and his Davidson.

    I may be some time.

Put your fucking Damarts on and wear a thinsulate hat then, or don't
    come bleating about sniffles tomorrow.

IME, HD dealers are not very good at supplying the right part.

The customers are not allowed to see the holy parts book. This is to
stop the customer discovering that the dealer has not paid the £60 per
model per year for the books and is using the closest one they can find
from their selection of 4 books.

And the dealers are a bit rubbish at knowing which is the closest book
    to the model you have

You'll probably have throttle cable for a 1977 SS 250

  6. I remember, in the 1980s when The Doctor and I both stewarded a
collection of Guzzis, that the way to buy a throttle (indeed, any) cable
was to take the old one into the shop, be offered a selection of cables
in varying lengths, and pick the one that most closely matched your old
    one.

We succumbed to this strange method of parts selling after buying, off
the shelf, two new cables for her V50 Monza, fitting them, and then
having the bugger race at 3500rpm at tikover.

Whatever we did, we couldn't stop it, and we came to the conclusion the
cables were fractionally too short, and took them back to the shop
(Bernie's Spares & Repairs in Colliers Wood).

"Oh yeah," said the bod behind the counter. "That's normal. Here, have
    some longer ones."

It's on. Well, it went on and then had to come off a few times, but
it is now on. It's the rest of the bits that need to go on too that
will require a revisit. Probable 'bits left over' count currently
zero, down from a potential two at the high (low) point.

Working with a LED head torch and specs on does your fucking eyes in,
with all that polished chrome about - I've only just got rid of the
    green blobs before my eyes.

That's why those 'merican rufty tufty bikers always wear shades when
    they're near their bikes.

Not yet you didn't. There've been highs and lows, and I left on a
low. As soon as I have time and energy to pound out another ~4,000
    words I'll sort it out.

    Ah, good man.

To cheer you up some, I've just accidentally won another auction
(combination of no life, boredom and esnipe are a killer combination)

This does mean my snap on collection has just become exponentially
larger, with quite a few duplicates, and I get a nice roll cab out of
    it.

Expect to feel some cold steel as I spread some spares out to the
    disciples soon ...

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Paul, if you know of an affordable Snap-On roll cab, I might be
interested - or if anyone else has one surplus to requirements give me a
    shout please.

Errmmm... I might be interested in taking some of those off your hands,
for an appropriate consideration of course. The Teng stuff I've got
already will get jealous, but I'll just have to keep them on opposite
    sides of the garage.

Yer a top geezer. When you've got your duplicates in one place, mail
me a list and we can do a deal, my son.
