I learned just a little while ago that the Lautenburg Amendment is dead..
The Amendment was defeated by sixty something to twenty something..

Our Nation's Capitol has been deluged with mail, e-mail, telephone calls and
faxes since Monday morning when Sen. Lautenburg announced the Amendment..
That's the way to get things done ..

While this one has been defeated at the Federal level, you can be sure that
our Legislature in Austin is working on other issues which we should be
    concerned about..

First .. The Helmet Bill is through Calendars and will be heard on the floor
of the House tomorrow.. There you go, guys.. The Federal Amendment has been
defeated.. the State Bill is waiting to count the votes.. What do you say ?
This State Bill is critical to all of us in Texas..

Second... The Failure to Yield Bill will be passing to Calendars, real soon,
now.. The importance of this Bill is critical, also..

Third.. The Insurance Bill will be in Committee .. hopefully this next
week.. There's one for you.. folks.. This one is very urgent..

Back in January.. bikers flooded our Capitol when Legislature opened this
Session.. Depending on whose number is used, there were between five and
seventy five hundred of us.. Those bikers came from all over Texas to make
your voices heard and your presence felt by our State Representatives,
Senators and even the governor .Those men and women who made that ride spoke
on behalf of each and every motorcyclist in this State.. We were heard and
our presence was felt by each elected and appointed official in our State
    government..

All that effort and influence should be rewarded by the participation of
every biker.. Those telphones, faxes and e-mails are as effective in Austin
as they are in Washington..Get to it.. Thanks to everyone who helped in the
effort in Washington and let's keep that momentum in Austin..

Congratulations to all those AMA, MRF, ABATE and independent riders out
there that did the last minute contacts. That's all legislators listen
to anyway. Unless the last minute contacts come in they figure previous
contacts have lost interest and don't care one way or another.
