The biker's spider sense

You know the one, it warns you about danger before it happens and you
    don't quite know why.

Coming back home on the GOR, a guy pops into my head. Mate of my
brother's. Died on a bike 15 years ago. Haven't thought about him for
years. It's accompanied by a sense of danger. I drop the pace, a bit
shaken, and five seconds later a bus comes around the next tight corner
as I'm wide trying to avoid gravel. Saves my life.

Then, just this Sunday, mucking about near Arthur's seat and up to
Flinders. I'm in behind a commodore and the spidey sense goes off. A
bit of a chill and a feeling that something's about to go wrong. I drop
back a car length or two, and next thing I know...

    Bugger-all happens.

Can you take it in for a tune-up? Mine's obviously poorly calibrated
    right now.

Your newsreader doesn't show messages in threads? How primitive! (or
haven't you learned to work it properly yet)

Naah. Smee's a new dad, and he gets touchy about little things.
    Probably his hormones.

    Stick with it.

BTW, what device *are* you using to read/post?

    Moike

(on second thoughts, I retract that comment about Smee. It isn't true.
    He's always been like that!)

I'm worried that you're not quoting your posts and replying
in-thread, but I'm even more worried that you're not putting
up a fight and telling us to **** off when we give you a
    hard time about it!

You can't go laying down and taking it around here boy! Fight
    back I tell ya!

GB, the beatings are character building, you mark my words!

Maybe the Commodore driver changed his mind about what he was going to do.

False alarms don't hurt. Ignoring them can...

It's called "Road Sense". Kind of like the way an Aborigine can follow
    trails invisible to white folk.

Spend enough time in an environment and you attune yourself so that things
that we may not even be consciously aware of will alert us to the increased
likelihood of something occurring. Trust your intuition.

May the Force be with you...

not if you have scanned a few then gone back.
I alway have read files cleared, that way only new headers appear.
So sometimes the sequence gets thrown out.

I have it set to retain read messages for 21 days... because the
sequence gets out of order if you don't allow a while before clearing
read messages... so that explains that.

Doesn't explain why you get rid of read messages straight away though?

But if you didn't back off something might have happened!

6ths sense its called, we have an uncanny nack for knowing when things are
about to go wrong, choose to ignore it out of whatever.

I use to always boast about being able to just know when a cop car was
approaching, this worked many times, until i got a ticket..

I keep messages for 14 days but only display unread messages. So yeah, no
quoting makes it a bit hard to work out the context sometimes.

    **** off then :)

I've learned to quote... Chalk this up as another example of how
pissing, moaning and noob abuse can help you get your way on the
    innerweb!

Sigh... When did it stop being about the motorbikes...
